With a tip of the hat to the words of Renata Adler, X-Men The First Class "is a terrific movie."

Even though not a huge comic-derived production fan, I was taken in by this from frame one. Through its entire 132 minutes, the film hardly ever falters. Great screenplay.

Both picture and audio are superb, and should be, as they are digitally sourced.

5.1 uncompressed audio, making its way through my 7.1 system, yielded extremely discreet results.

Superb entertainment value on a reference quality Blu-ray disc.

    Highly Recommended.

This looked fantastic in 35mm! Shot in Panavision, no less. I enjoyed this more than the previous X-Men films. It really does feel more like a 1960s James Bond entry than a modern comic book movie. Along with Super 8, this really showed off the personality of anamorphic scope cinematography.

Is anyone having trouble playing this on a PS3? I can't even get to the menu, and I updated the firmware earlier today.

    Any info appreciated.

Sam, it plays just fine on my PS3 slim with the latest firmware. Sorry to hear you're having problems. Maybe it's a defective disc?

Glad you found a solution, but I'll skip on reading the thread you linked to. Mine's working fine. No sense in looking for trouble.

It took FOREVER to get to the menu on my Panasonic, but once it did everything worked fine.

Interesting notion, and now that you mention it, I quite agree (from what I recall of catching this in the theaters). It does seem to have a fair bit of a retro 60's-to-early-70's feel to it, not just in a James Bond sort of way. It's certainly not much like the comic book itself -- much less so than the previous films in this franchise -- which required a fair bit of reorientation for me to enjoy even though I was not a hardcore fan of the comics. Think I'll probably end up enjoying this more on repeat viewings at home on BD than in my first/one viewing at the theaters even though I could definitely use a bigger screen for such flicks...

Best Buy has the Blu-ray Combo Pack for just $17.99 this week! That's a pretty darn good price.

After taxes, I rather give me business to Amazon without having to stand in lines and burn gasoline driving to the store.

I just received the Futureshop flyer here and it's also 17.99 for the 2-disc. Pretty sweet.
