I think we're talking about two completely different things here. I'm not talking about the content of the scene at all.
Forget it Sam. We're not even I the same orbit here.schan1269 said:How is the scene awkward?

My point on the content of the scene is irrelevant. Sure they could have had some magazines(they don't???). Maybe videos. A take home kit.
It might be odd...but I bet you googled Anime Habit Porn...Tom Logan said:Doesn't John Glenn humm/sing the same song in both the masturbation and the re-rentry scenes? If so, that alone makes it worth it by linking the two sides of astronaut's dehumanizing routines/heroisms.
JMHO.
And, yes, this is now officially the oddest thread at HTF. And that's saying something.
Since Dolby is doing plenty of its own promotion for this title, I doubt any money changed hands. They've just reached a mutually beneficial arrangement where both have agreed to promote each other.moovtune said:Probably Dolby paid big bucks to Warner's to use their upsampling technology and spread the word about it.
Yeah, that's how I remember it, too. Some people thought the movie would make Glenn look bad and be a hack job, which it wasn't. Sure, it made him look square - and a bit like a self-promoter, in the press conference scene - but it mostly makes you think he's a solid, stand-up hero.zoetmb said:I also originally saw this movie in 70mm Dolby 6-track in New York (probably at the old Beekman, since it didn't play at the preferred 70mm theaters like the Ziegfeld, Orpheum or Astor Plaza) and loved every minute of it, including (maybe especially) the mixed tone.
If they took this movie totally seriously and filled it with a bunch of known Hollywood actors, it would have been like "The Towering Inferno" or some garbage like that. I thought the film was brilliant and look forward to seeing it on BD.
I remember at the time, John Glenn's handlers were initially troubled by the film's release - they thought it would hurt his political aspirations. But surveys demonstrated that people who saw the film thought more highly of Glenn after seeing the film - especially women who liked the way the Glenn character defended his wife in the movie.
I believe that Tom Wolfe's book (or excerpts from it) was originally published in Rolling Stone.
I never understood the love for "Terms of Endearment" and even though Nicholson's performance was praised, I felt like he walked through the picture. Maybe the Academy got confused since he played an ex-astronaut.

Does anybody have the contact information?cb1 said:When I bought my copy from BB I received the 48k sound. I wrote WB customer service and yesterday I received the correct 96k sound version. I probably will not notice with my tinnitus and all. But at least I have what I paid for.
I listened to the opening sequence and I thought it sounded excellent.
Mine is on the way after receiving a nice acknowledgement email from Ms. Bogard.David_B_K said:Received my corrected copy a few days ago. Many thanks to Sherri Bogard and WB!
