    Joe Hisaishi is probably best known for his scores for Kitano and Miyazaki films, but I like his score for Robot Carnival.

    A better score to a Japanese animated film [not to mention a better film all-around] is Ryuichi Sakamoto's for Wings of Honneamise.

    Yeah, that was a bad segue all right.

    Okay, I seem to have killed it, so I'll change my response to :
    For those who were watching closely, Ohtomo's full-length Steamboy seems to reuse, in the form of the "Steam Castle", a great many of the elements from his Robot Carnival segment.
