50' HDMI or 2 Cat6e Wires? (1 Viewer)

I'm in the process of moving all my HT gear into the hall closet cause my son is at that age where he gets into EVERYTHING. . . .plus I have always wanted to have a HT Gear Closet. So I have run all my other cables(16/2, RG6, RG59, Cat5e, etc) and I'm down to the last run and that is my HDMI run for my video. I have read a lot of mixed reviews on HDMI Cables over that length and I'm really confused. I have know problems running 2 Cat6e wires for the video and converting to HDMI, but the last thing I want is to end up not having 1080p@120hz at my LCD!! So what would y'all recommend? I have sent in some e-mails to HDMI asking them what they recommend and I have contacted some other "High End" HT specialist and am currently waiting to hear back from them. Please feel free to tell me I'm a idiot too. . . . .any input would be nice!!

hey i'm new too, lol, well you wanted someone to say something!! go with hdmi cable, but hey what do i know. will ask my ht geek buddy who installs for bestbuy and is pretty reliable, and has been grown up in electronics.

HDMI Baluns support 1080p over 1 or 2 cat 5e cables (depending on model) You should expect to pay $300-$400 for the two cat5e units and a lot more for the 1 cat5e unit. Make sure you get one with power because there are passive units that I haven't been happy with. There is a voltage that has to be maintained (4v?) through the HDMI and if that dips below at all you get fuzz. For that reason is why I would not use a 50' HDMI, but use a powered HDMI Balun. Try Key Digital brand, thats about the best out there. There are cheapies, but beware! FYI most that I have seen you will have to terminate RJ45 on the cat5 ends. Good luck!

I am also looking at some 30-50 foot lengths. One vendor suggested 2 shorter cables with a HDMI Active Extender/Repeater (about $35). There was the std caveats "Note: Please observe the following guidelines for best results:
1) All HDMI sources/devices behave differently. Your results may vary from our own.
2) Always test long HDMI cables and extenders before installation.
3) Repeaters and extenders equalize HDMI signals. If cables of different lengths are used, it is usually best to put the longer cable on the source side"

Hi HTF members --- take a moment to review/research the cables offered by Perfect Path, www.perfectpath.com Not your "traditional" cable company, in business well over 40+ years, but they do make great cables! I have sold and used their products for a little over a year now. One particular HDMI cable length at 25' and NO issues to date! Their 700 Series is noteworthy, in-wall rated, LOCKING HDMI feature.

research on the perfect path HDMI cables indicates lengths of 25/35/50 feet at approx $5/foot. They state that they amplify cables with "PerfectLink™ Chipset - Two-way active imbedded high-performance equalizer (amplifier) for lengths at and beyond 16 feet. Internally powered that does not require external power supply".

Pull all three with an extra cat5 for control and also a 2" conduit or "smurf" tube as it's called. 50ft hdmi is no problem as long as you don't cheap out. Get a quality cable that is high speed. We do 35-50ft all the time with no issues so far. No boosters needed. We use Audio Quest Cinnamon cables.
