I have the same problem. No matter what order you turn on/off the tv and cable there is no sound. Only when you unplug the cable before turning on the tv. So frustrating!!
Anyone ever figure this out?

to resolve hand shake issues:
Turn off all your gear.
Start by turning on the display, then turn on the avr, then turn on the component you are using. wait 10 seconds between each "on".
If the above doesnt work, most likely one or more of your components are hdmi 1.1 or 1.2 (vs 1.3 or 1.4) and dont work with the newer gear. Time to replace. (the cable company should be able to do a free exchange).
Good luck!
