Isn't Perspecta in its raw form just optical mono? Why would anybody need to go and look for it?

It's been awhile since this thread was started, has anyone determined if the original negative still exits? And if it does, how feasible is it to expect a full blown deluxe set that has both versions of the movie? In other words, historically, is this movie a decent seller? (Like on par with something like Touch of Evil which just got a 3 version- release)

I don't think they looked for it, but discovered it by accident. Sort of like Universal finding the stereo soundtrack to IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE in film cans marked "Spanish track."

For a mono track and moving the frequencies around, I guess a Perspecta track can be quite impressive.

Properly heard, it's more impressive than people realize. When we ran FORBIDDEN PLANET in Perspecta through a restored Fairchild integrator on a 50 foot screen , many people though it was real stereo. They're not just panning a mono signal, but controlling gain levels as well, sometimes through all 3 speakers.
