I'll have the new bracket up shortly after I've updated the Master List with results.

Bracket One, Round Two

North
1. Stanley Kubrick
vs.
9. Rainer Werner Fassbinder

South
1. John Ford
vs.
9. D.W. Griffith

East
1. Charlie Chaplin
vs.
8. Gregg Toland

West
1. Akira Kurosawa
vs.
8. Bernard Hermann

Dome's opinion: I'm not at all familiar with Fassbinder, although I hear glowing recommendations in the Expanding Horizons thread. I'd still like to see more Kubrick, although if I were to take that chance, I'd only see three films made in my lifetime. John Ford and D.W. Griffith are so much alike. I'd like to see more Gregg Toland work to be honest over another Chaplin. I'd love to see Kurosawa work in this day and age as his work still holds up to modern times.

Stanley Kubrick - I daresay Fassbinder is an acquired taste.
John Ford
Gregg Toland
- I agree with Dome's assessment of this matchup.
Akira Kurosawa

Dammit, I was hoping Fassbinder would get to go deeper into this tournament, but even I can't vote for him against Stanley.

Kubrick
D.W. Griffith
Charlie Chaplin
Kurosawa

Kubrick, but not that easy

Griffith I'd love to see what he could do today.

Chaplin Love Toland's work, but this is still pretty easy.

Kurosawa A great composer v a great director. Hard, but clear.

Stanley Kubrick

John Ford - Easy

Gregg Toland - This was a tough one, but Toland likely would work on many more films than Chaplin so quantity is a factor.

Akira Kurosawa - Tough to vote against Herrmann but it's Kurosawa.

And Dome, I this is the second time that Preston Sturges has been listed as "Preson Surges".

Or am I just voting for the wrong person???

I don't really like these Director vs. film star match-ups. If I like both I'm almost always going to go with the Director.

Howard Hawks - tough draw for Cagney
Sam Peckinpah - ditto for Mason
Preson Sturges - quite easy - although to be fair I've seen every film of Sturges but only two films from Tarkovsky.
I love Solaris but Andrei Rublev didn't connect with me.
Warren Oates -
