I have one for you:

Why not do a combination feature story and review that focuses on a pertinent issue: Is it wise to buy a non-ATSC television, direct-view or rear-projection, at all in this era of technological transition? Then, as a sidebar to the story, or as a companion piece, do a roundup-style review of some of the better-respected "analog"-only sets on the market (Toshiba's oft-praised direct-view models, the non-ATSC "flatscreen" TVs by Sony and JVC, etc.).

I'd really love to see a review of one of the new Rocket home theater packages. ;)

HTPC audio and video cards. For audio cards, ones that connect to a receiver would be best (not internal receivers on the PC which output to speakers for games etc)

HTPC DVD players and software.

Power conditioners under 500 Cnd.

Uninterrupted power supplies (UPS), again under 500 Cdn.

If Denon would let you review a 3800 dvd player that would be great. I doubt if you would do it though because of the lockup/freeze issue. Although Denon is working on the problem, I'm not holding my breath.I have yet to see a review of this player so any experts advice would be welcome.

B&K Ref 50
New Onkyo, Integra, & Yamaha universal DVD players (chroma bug, bass management, CD/SACD/DVD-A audio quality, etc)
Velodyne HGS series II subs (HGS-12, HGS-15)
Monster 7000 power conditioner

Cheers!

How about reviewing the Harman Kardon AVR 8000. That would be nice. Have some photos of the insides, it's just so damn sexy!
:f Sorry for not responding sooner:f
We're in the middle of shipping and I'm just coming up for air. Excellent suggestions here. Denon will not loan us a 3800 and knowing the lock up freeze issue exists, I can't see anyone getting too excited about it in a review. Though, we do have our feelers out for a superior replacement. I'm hoping it will arrive in time to squeeze it into March...if not April. Monster 7000 power conditioner will run in March--don't miss this one. We're at one of those weird times when companies are going thru model changes so they don't want to send us anything because it won't appear until March or early Spring. We are working on a subwoofer special. I am personally reviewing over 30 subwoofers and it will have a subwoofer buyers guide--cool for you, bad for your neighbors. :) I've got some other products in the pipeline but I can't let everything out of the bag...just wanted you to know we're listening. -Thank you!

How about a review of the new NAD Electronics receivers. The T752, T762 and the T772.

I'm mostly interested in the T762 as that will most likely be my next receiver.

Thank you.
We have the NAD T752 review running in our Jan issue--on newsstands Dec 30.
We have requested the Philips 963 for review.
I think's it's cool that you let us know what reviews are coming... :)
Thank you, Clint, I appreciate it and am looking forward to it.

Will SVS and HSU be included in the subwoofer reviews?
So far HSU will be, but I have not heard back from SVS.
How about a review of the Yamaha RX-V630.
Clint,

Denon has just announced a fix for their 3800 dvd player, regarding the lockups /skipping. This month, and more in Jan. people can send their players in for a fix. They say the fault lies with the laser pickup assy.
Maybe after all is said and done then you could review it?

For more info on this see the special thread on avforum.com.

We are supposed to be getting in the Onkyo universal player for review.

How about some face-offs?

1) Pre-amps -
B&K Ref 50 vs. Anthem AVN20 (plus any others in same range).

2) Amps -
Multichannel amplifier face-off ... B&K, Anthem, Nad, Parasound, Rotel, Sherbourn, Outlaw, etc.

3) Receivers -
B&K AVR 507 vs. Denon 5903 vs. Pioneer 49TXi vs. Sunfire Ultimate (plus any others in same range).

Although it might not be feasible, I'd love to see face-off's like those suggested by Hugh. And, he definitely has some good products that would be exciting to see come head to head.
:tu: Some great products suggested here for the head-to-head...we have talked about getting into the head-to-head "business" here for a while...it's a tough route to go unless we have several writers in on the review--a panel of sorts. We'll keep you posted. We've been waiting for the Anthem for about 4-months now...and B&K hasn't responded to a single query. We have CES in a couple of short weeks...we expect to put a few of these manufacturers in a cholk-hold to get what we want!
Actually, Anthem has promised us multiple delivery dates for the AVM20 across the past six months. The problem is that all of you on the forums have talked this processor up so much across the past couple of months, they must sell every piece they can make, leaving none for us! :D
I also am interested in the new REF 50, as well as the upcoming Parsound Halo Processor.

How about a roundup of budget (<$5000) front projector systems? Sure they are still in the niche market but what a lot of people don't know is that you can get an incredible picture from these cheaper business class front projectors at the same price point as a decent rear projection tv. I've noticed a trend in the past couple years of going to 'Parade of Homes' that a dedicated home theatre seems to be the "In" thing right now.

Would also be a good chance to give the run down of DLP, LCD, CRT and D-ILA projectors. Pros and cons.
Jason,

Nothing to do with your post and completely off topic, but your link was tres cool. :D That cat is now bookmarked and will be visited regularly.
Dana,
LOL, well actually my host crashed last week so I lost my entire site. I just put up that cat until I can get everything back in order. If you think that is cool, wait until everything is back up. ;)

But yeah back on topic...

Any chance of getting the Klipsch RF-7's reviewed or any of the Klipsch reference line?
Jason - you'll be happy to learn that I'm currently in talks with several manufacturers, rounding up several projectors in the price bracket you mentioned. If there are specific models you'd like to see reviewed, post them here and we'll do the best we can.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Thanks Greg.

The one that I'm really interested in right now is the NEC HT1000. The 3000:1 contrast really is an eye grabber. It is right in the $5000 range.

I personally have the NEC LT150 which I got a year ago when it was all the rage. It has performed flawlessly, so I wouldn't mind seeing how the newer models perform.

Another good budget one might be Sharp's PG-M20X.

The Onkyos SP800 universal player is in for review.
How about in-depth reviews of the Denon 3803, Pioneer Elite 45TX, and similar manufacture list AVRs that fall into the $1000-1500 range for those of us upgrading to real equipment?

Yes, my first receiver was from a HTIB (receiver sold separately for $325). My current receiver MSRP's at $1400. I suppose in about 5 years I'll be ready for something more serious (in price).

When you guys do a review on a relatively small piece of hardware, have you ever considered having more than one person on your staff review it? Kind of like the Outdoor Life Network's "Gear Guide" show. They'll get three of their people to try something, and rate it. Often they have different opinions, but usually they find unique aspects they like.

Just a thought.
