Tekken 4 does not have a 16:9 option.

So, the Xbox doesn't upconvert a 720p signal to 1080i? If so, then this is really lame. If all set top boxes can do this, then why wouldn't Microsoft enable the Xbox to do it?

I agree this is lame. Most STB's can do it - not sure why MS didn't design the Xbox to do it.

I have a Mits 55857 and I think Troy's assessment is correct. the Mits will choke if input a 720p signal to the 1080 inputs - my Mits STB takes the ABC 720p signal and upconverts that to 1080i BEFORE going to the TV. Thus, unless the XBox can do the same, we're S.O.L. for 720p gaming.

Sh*t. Hi-def gaming comes and my $20k+ setup STILL can't take advantage of it. sh*t.

That aside, Dave - you should mark NFL 2k3, NFL Fever 2003 & MotoGP as "yes" in the "ONLINE" section.
In addition to NFL 2k3, NFL Fever 2003 and MotoGP all being ONLINE.

Don't forget about NBA 2k3 being online as well.

What about NBA 2K3 for the GameCube? Do we at least get 480P or 16:9? Anyone know?

Does anyone know anything about TIME SPLITTERS 2 for any of the consoles?

Updated. I entered Xbox Timesplitters 2 with a "no" in the online column, as it doesn't officially support netplay & no one voiced an opinion regarding how to handled such titles. If any one feels they should be handled differently, let me know...

i know for sure NFL Blitz 20-02 for Xbox does NOT run in 5.1, it is just 2 channel stereo.
I think, think MLB Slugfest for xbox may not either, but i am not sure
also, to be picky, silent hill 2 uses dd 4.0, w/o the lfe channel, but it the 4.0 is still dolby digital.
i heard rumblings that need for speed xbox doesn't support 5.1, but i DOUBT that: confirm that it does and i'll edit this post

Saul,

What system is that?

Thanks,

Uppps! Sorry Dave! I have the XBox version.

Thanks Saul, I've added that to the list.

Since Silent Hill 2 has 4 discrete channels, I think I'll leave the sound category checked for now. If someone can confirm Xbox Need For Speed, that'd be great.

Anyone have suggestions for a better column title than "5.1"? It should be something short, for formatting purposes. Otherwise I'd just call it "Surround-sound-but-not-just-regular-Dolby-Surround-Sound".

Somebody on AVSForum is claiming that Transworld Snowboarding for the XBox supports 1080i. Anybody have any info on this?
so, besides Tekken 4 and Burnout 2, are there any other "hidden" 480p games for the PS2??\

also, an xbox question. I am getting one tomorrow and i'm wondering what setting i should leave my xbox on if my tv won't accept a 720p signal. Do i switch it game-to-game?
Sean,

You setup your Xbox in the "dashboard" when it first boots up. Under the video properties, just tell it what kinds of signals that your HDTV can display and it will output those accordingly (nothing to change in the actual game options).

IE. If you can display 480p and 1080i, but not 720p (like most rear projection HDTV's), then check off 480p and 1080i. For those games that actually do 720p, the Xbox will only output 480p. When we finally get a 1080i game, it will output 1080i automatically.

Socom does not have 16x9 support.
I believe SOCOM does support 16:9. It doesn't have a menu option, but I'm fairly sure it reads the console setup and automatically sets the screen size accordingly. A friend of mine didn't have his console set up correctly (to 16:9), and everything looked "fat" on his 16:9 TV. After changing his console setup to 16:9, and powering the game back up, everything looked normal. The cut scenes (as in most 16:9 games) are not in 16:9, but I believe game play is.
Socom looks 16:9 to me as well.
> are there any other "hidden" 480p games for the PS2??

NBA2K3 = 480p, 16:9, online
NFL2K3 = 480p, 16:9, online
Robotech: Battle Cry = 480p

Burnout 2, Socom, and Tekken 4 are already listed.
yes, Socom is most definitely 16:9. seems to be automaticaly detected from your ps2 settings. plus once you pick progressive scan it will prompt you to confirm this everytime you boot up the game. and what a game it is!

So does it do 16:9 for both 480i & 480p?

-Dave
i know it does 16:9 for 480p at least.

even non 480p games on the ps2, like GT3 and GTA3, as long as they have 16:9, look much better than i was expecting.
Interesting...maybe Socom has a 16x9 mode only when playing in 480p? That would explain why I can't play in 16x9 mode since my WEGA does not support 480p. It's also 4x3, but I play in the 16x9 enhanced mode whenever I can. And my PS2 is set to 16x9 in the setting as well.

Can anyone try playing in interlaced mode and see if they still get a 16x9 view?

Thanks!
Pouya,
I'm playing on a widescreen connected via S-Vid. I can confirm that I'm seeing a 16:9 picture as well.

so this *might* mean those of us with HDTV's might only be able to use the gun with HOTD3 if it's 1080i? That's the only interlaced mode where a line doubler woudln't come in to play.

bad news from gamefaqs.com :

"I just bought the Mad catz Blaster light gun and this is what it states on the back of the box...... Light guns may not support all types of television displays. In particular, Blaster does not support HD, Projection, or Progressive Scan Television. It also says>> (note)This product requires that you use the standard composite video connection (yellow rca connector) between your game system and Tv. The composite video cable comes standard with all xbox game systems. I guess this means I cant you my monster s-video which sucks because then I wont be able to play the game in 5.1 surround sound either.Well will know tomorrow for sure. "

You could always get the Advanced AV pack from Microsoft, it has connections for s-video and composite with digital out.
yeah but even with the microsoft advanced a/v pack we probably couldn't use a gun with any sort of hd signal.

This is why I recommended the Advanced A/V pack, this way you would still have your DD 5.1 sound.

I was really excited for this game, but seeing as I've got 2 RPTV's, it looks like this one will have to wait.
