I'm just amazed at how similar you all look as Na'vi. Where's Mike's picture? Elizabeth?

Lord of the Rings blu-ray box set is going for £29.97 at Amazon. I'm tempted. I already have the extended versions in HDTV quality. I saw some of the Balrog scene on a screen at my local HMV and it looked brighter and clearer than I remember it. Hmmm

Where's YOUR picture huh?  Eh?  The only thing that app got right on mine was my wandering eye! :P

This initial Blu release of LOTR can go chase itself.  I got the DVD's of the theatricals to never watch again, I'm waiting for the extended editions damn it!

It's only money Russell, if I don't spend £30 on LOTR, I'll just spend it on books or something else.

The new Total Film mag is out, bought it, free Tron Legacy poster inside, big one. Prince of Persia on the other side. This months big interview, Christopher Walken.

TF - You almost never turn down any role. Is there something you'd refuse to do?

CW - Something that was truly vulgar and offended me, but otherwise, no.

TF - Do you keep any personal mementos of your career at your home?

CW - I do. I can tell you I never buy clothing, because whenever I do a movie I keep the clothes. This (jacket) is from The Comfort of Strangers.

TF - So you're very thrifty then?

CW - I'm thrifty, and not only that, it's pretty nice stuff. They don't like to give you anything, so I steal it! On my last day of shooting Batman Returns I was already thinking of of things I was going to take, but when I finished my last scene and went back to my dressing room they'd already cleaned everything out! They saw me coming.

true true, I see it as a space issue since I rarely get rid of the DVD versions I double dip on.  I'm going to need a huge house!  Criterion has some nice blus coming out.  RAH just declared "M" to be the greatest release ever on this planet.  Then in July they're doing fancy versions of "THE RED SHOES" and "BLACK NARCISSIUSSUSISU".  I'll probably blind buy those, Steve said their good so that has to be good enough for me. :P

Let me get this right. I don't laugh as an 11-year-old girl gets the shit beaten out of her, so that makes me out of touch.

Uh oh, looks like Steve's favorite movie reviewer doesn't like Steves favorite movie!  :O

The Red Shoes passed me by, only watched it once but Scorsese loves it. Black Narcissus is a favourite, I liked the photography a lot even if it was mostly done in a British studio with lots of matte paintings of mountains. It just looks great, and that final 10mins when the sexually frustrated nun looks like she's possessed by the devil and ready to kill is fantastic.

Ebert didn't like Kick-Ass? Haha, oh dear, yes the little girl does get beaten up, punched and thrown around the room like a rag doll, but it's comic book stuff, not to be taken seriously. I loved it and I'm looking forward to seeing it again.

I have the British import of Black Narcissus on Bd, and it looks lovely.  Have to agree with Steve that the finale of the film is great and Kathleen Byron offers up a terrific performance as the unstable Sister Ruth.  The film's photography really flatters her (she was quite striking in this film) with some wonderful color schemes, especially in the finale.

Great film, and an easy recommendation.

- Walter.

That's how I felt with that Tom Hanks "Man With One Red Shoe".  I think it's a remake?

I think we have racist goldfish. [cue gasps and a snicker] A week ago we bought 4 goldfish to replace our 2 dead ones (both died within hours of each other). Three of the goldfish are the normal common type, the other was a different breed and brown in colour. I caught all three goldfish chasing the brown fish around the tank and thumping it with their heads, is this normal? Are they just playing? Are they horny? Can they hate? The brown fish did not look happy, well it wasn't smiling.

What old movie is this publicity shot from, anyone?

Did the wife pick out the 3 gold fish?  ;P

TOWER OF LONDON!?!?  With Boris Karloff?  Is that Boris Karloff?  I think that's Boris Karloff.  I got a beautiful coffee table book yesterday on the universal monsters.  Haven't had a chance to read it yet, looks like it'll be tricky to read on the toilet do to it's large size.

I pick the goldfish, she buys the tuna.

No it's not Karloff. Russ I sent you this film last year, you've forgotten it already.

That's Paulette Goddard menaced by Zombie Noble Johnson (the native chief from King Kong).

I probably watched it during the horror challenge, I never remember those movies!

It was the Bob Hope comedy The Ghost Breakers (1940), which contained some creepy scenes in a haunted castle. Hope had previously appeared with Goddard in the 1939 film The Cat and the Canary.

I've got Planet of the Vampires playing on the tv, a creaky but atmospheric Italian sci-fi from 1965, directed by Mario Bava.

Aww well, I haven't gotten to those Hope films yet!  Now I don't feel as dumb ha ha.

Colorscope?!?!?!  How the hell did that process not take off?!?!!?  Oh.... wait a minute...

Steve's favorite film ever KICK-ASS opens world wide today, anyone going?  I'm too busy this weekend, probably wont get a chance.  BOOO!  I watched "JULIE & JULIA" last night.  That one about Julia Child and a blogger who worships her.  Nice little film, made me darned hungry though!

One of the mods saw Kick-Ass he didn't like it, he was actually offended by it, what a wuss, check out the review page in the movies area. Seems it's not everyone's cup of tea.

I'm looking forward to my next superhero fix in a few weeks time -

Iron-Man-2-xx.jpg

And there's a whole bunch of expensive superhero movies coming out in 2011, and 2012, including The Mighty Thor, Captain America, Deadpool, The Flash, Spider-Man and The Avengers (I hope Patrick Macnee has a cameo).

Oh i love movies that offend me. Cept Natural Born Killers...didnt like that one.

I rented Black Narcissist last year. It was OK. One time watch for me, but i can see why Steffo loves it.

Have you guys seen this!

I posted that exact same Expendables trailer a page or two back Rick, where have you been?

Yep that's another movie I'm looking forward too, should be a 'blast'. And than there's Robert Rodriguez Machete out later in the year, starring Steven Seagal, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Alba and Robert De Niro.

Alba's on the cover of the new Total Film -

A Brand New Life
Saw my first film of the Hawaii International Film Festival Spring Fling this weekend.  It was "A Brand New Life", a French/Korean film about an orphanage.  Sae Ron Kim was just wonderful as the main little girl.

I am seeing the German/Israel "Ajami" today.

I managed to sneak in KICK-ASS this weekend.  It was every bit as good as Steve-O claimed it to be.  The nerd fanboy in me preferred the comics version, but that's typically how these things go eh?  Still great stuff, and well worth a look! 4/5 from me.

Liz, is it the festival where they show a film on the beach?  That still sounds like movie bliss to me ha ha.

I watched Ninja Assassin this last weekend.

It was OK, but after an hour, it became one of those movies that feel like your watching someone else play a video game...lame.

The CGI blood didn't help me like it any more.

 1/2 out of 5

Yea, that bad.

Halo Legends was pretty good, OK half of it was good. A few of the stories were lame, like Batman Gotham Night. But it had enough good stuff to keep me interested.

And last, who is getting Avatar on Blu this week? I wasn't, but now that its under $20, i am in!
I think I gave NINJA ASSASSIN the same rating Rickers.  For the same reason.  CGI blood looks ridiculous and the action was so all over the place you could never tell what the hell was happening.  Kind of defeats the purpose of an action movie no?

KICK ASS totally delivers the action though, I might see it again this week.

Woohoo congrats Mike, a well deserved promotion.

Now you have the power to push Huddler into fixing things you always wanted fixed around here. Flex those muscles, flare those nostrils, that should do it.

"I HAVE THE POWER!"

I'm glad you enjoyed Kick-Ass Rass, best film of the year, not that I've seen many films this year. But I preferred it to Burton's Alice in Wonderland and Scorsese's gloomy Shutter Island, which had some good acting but it'll be some time before I sit through it again. Let's see if I like Iron Man 2 more.

Kick-Ass only grossed $20m at the weekend, which was below expectations, but it only cost $30m to make, while the upcoming Iron Man 2 cost a whopping $200m to make.

p.s. I really liked Ninja Assassin, best Ninja film in ages.

Steve:  That's eerie how you got that image of me.

Do you have some weird international access to the security camera in the building I work at?!?

Here's a shot from earlier today (a little more clear than your image) when Parker & Cees stopped by to deliver my complementary wench.

Sweet!  I figured that Mike had already won that Avatar disc, instead, he can pull the weasel and have me selected!  Woot!  I win!!!  :P

NINJA ASSASSIN : It was the best Ninja movie in years, yet not that good.  Speaks volumes about the ninja genre.  ha ha

Yeah they have all been crap, my favorite Ninja film is the Bond film, You Only Live Twice.

Lucky you're not moderator at the Zardoz forum Mike, I've heard they wear red nappies and "The Gun is Good. The Penis is Evil" badges.

ajami

Saw Ajami yesterday at HIFF.  This was one of this year's Oscar nominees for Best Foreign Language film.  I'm afraid I was in no condition to give it the proper attention -- in my incredibly sleepy state, the many characters and storylines had me confused.

Russ, no the HIFF isn't on the beach.  It's possible they may have had one or two showings at the beach over the years, but it's usually at a regular multiplex.
Ajami looks like one of those shitty films where a tough guy has to look after some kid and usually stars "The Rock", based on that poster art.  I'm guessing it's actually full of poverty and rape.  That's the mandate of foreign films eh?  I suggest having a few singapour slings before the films Liz, I'm sure the 3 mojitos boosted my like of KICK ASS.
Id be damned tired if i had to watch Adamajdi...whatever, too!

And what Russ said about foreign films, goes for me too. Cept for British films, cause those are not foreign. Hell, British films are usually FOX movies, like Star Wars, or Alien.
