Testy Area 51 - Page 800

I saw "The Men Who Stare at Goats" yesterday.  It was amusing and I liked the Clooney/McGregor combination.
The preview of Goats gives off a zany Coen Brothers vibe.  Both me and my wife really want to see it.

I watched Crank 2 last night..........I think it gave me an aneurysm

Haha Crank 2 was insane, so much fast cutting and zooming in I wasn't sure what I was watching, thank Christ it wasn't in 3-D!

They keep showing clips from Goats on tv, looks weird. I've had my fill of weird this year.

Did I mention I finally saw Moon? No? I finally saw Moon.

I also saw Surrogates, the Bruce Willis sci-fi thingy. The whole things absurd but who knows what might happen in the future. People all over the world plug themselves into a machine which activates a robot of their choice that looks like a real person, or better looking versions of themselves. And that surrogate robot does all the walking, shopping, working, dancing, fucking etc while the controller is hooked up at home experiencing all the sensations. It's like virtual reality except it's happening in the real world. A surrogate is murdered and the person controlling it is found dead too. Bruce Willis, well his younger looking surrogate, is on the case,,,

I enjoyed both Moon and Surrogates. For some reason Moon reminded me of Silent Running. Sam Rockwell in the Bruce Dern part, working alone in space, robots or in this case a supercomputer named GERTY as Rockwell's companion. GERTY is voiced by Kevin Spacey. There is a twist in this tale as Rockwell makes a shocking discovery...[bites fist]

Moon 2009
I found that Sam Rockwell did a fantastic job pulling off a what is essentially a one person show. Kevin Spacey's voice was used and there was some video work by a few other actors but it was about 95% done by one actor. That is very difficult to pull off and still hold you interest.

I just got my Blu copies of Heat, Up, and Monsters Inc. and all are fantastic. Heat never looked or sounded so good outside of the theater and really made me miss my front projection system. They all are demo discs for your Blu-ray set up to show off to your friends.

I want to see The Men Who Stare At Goats but will probably wait until the disc comes out.

Isnt it a stinker that the Blu of Its a Wonderful Life isnt what it should be? Saves me a bit of money this season. I am going to add Moon to my NetFlix.
Watched a movie called Splinter. Its not bad, for what it was. These "splinter" alien growths kill you and grow bigger sucking out your body fluids, while looking for more people to suck the life from. It was made here in Oklahoma too. Never heard of this flick til i rented it. Worth a rental, if you guys are into that kind of movie, and i know you are.
I want to see Moon and Surrogates, rentals probably........it's been about a year since we've been to the theaters, my longest dry spell ever.  I used to go at least twice a week when I was younger.

I also received the BD's of Heat, Up, Monsters and also Near Dark yesterday.  Didn't get a chance to watch any yet...maybe this weekend.

I wasn't planning on getting the BD of Wonderful Life.  It's a great film but I've seen it too many times over the years.

What's wrong with it?  Is it waxed? Haloed? Crayola'ed?

Russ, alien growths sucking out bodily fluids! Russ? Wasn't Splinter the name of one of the Ninja Turtles? Sort of sounds familiar.

ooh I want all of those on Blu, especially Heat. Don't think it's out here yet.

I bought 4 Blu-ray films yesterday and 4 today, I won't say which films for fear of ridicule. But altogether I have bought, let me see... 17 Blu-ray films in 10 days... crikey! one of them imported from the US ( 300 Complete Experience Edition I hope it plays on my machine)

Thanks Rick, Elizabeth gave me that same link a page or 2 ago. It's useful and it says 300 is region-free, I haven't dared put it thru my player yet, I'll save it for saturday. I also bought the Matrix trilogy, the Animatrix, Highlander (there can be only one!) and How the West Was Won.

I have these 4 enroute to me, too.  The only movie I haven't seen before is "Up".  Strange how I had no interest whatsoever to see it at the theater, but they had really good deals for the Blu-Ray.

I have 300, the Ultimate Matrix set and HTWWW and they all look great.  Nothing there to ridicule Steve.

I know.........Amazon is practically giving away Blu-rays with their pre-order sales lately.

It's great isn't it?

Right, that's it!  This farce has gone on long enough!  Someone has to get to England to put a stop to Christou mindlessly replacing the rubbish part of his collection with blu-rays!  Good god man, have ye no shame?!?!?!   :P

I might pick up "Up" tonight, and Natural Born Killers DC is on sale so that's a must buy for me since I only have it on VHS.  Why's that you ask?  Because no other version other then laser disc had the Nine Inch Nails video for "Burn" on it as far as I know.  So I skipped it.  I'll upgrade now though.  Oh, I might buy the 24 hour long version of Watchmen as well.

So long paycheck, nice knowing you!  :D

I watched G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra last night on Blu-Ray.  It was an entertaining popcorn movie and really never stopped for a breath -- virtually non-stop action.  My favorite part was the chase through Paris.  I wasn't aware Byung-hun Lee's English pronunciation is so good.
Oh!  I watched GI Joe last weekend on Blu!  Have I mentioned that before?  Hold your breath.... I liked it!  See?  I'm not a snoot!  It was amazingly actually kind of good.  And Christopher Eccellestein was in it too, that was a nice surprise.  Dr. Who in a GI Joe movie.  :)

800 pages! Wow! It's just... incredible isn't it?

I'd normally be doing that roll call of testy posters now, but this new software doesn't have that facility, so we no longer know exactly how many posts we each have in total in this thread (unless we count each one). Page 782 contains the last such list.

Hi Mike! Good to see you here again. Some of the droogs might not know that you have over 1100 posts in this leviathan of a thread. You were number 2 poster here at one time. Now Russell Grant has taken your place. [Mike grinds teeth]

I might not be anymore though, you should get counting Steve. :P

GI JOE was good stuff, and not just for the reason you pointed out.  See?

You are, Number 6!

Or to quote Austin Powers...

Who does Number 2 work for!

Hi Mike, whats going on behind the couch?

Hope you guys have a good weekend.
I have Batman and Superman: Public Enemies to spin this weekend on Blu-ray, from my NetFlix Q
I'll let you know.

Ha........I almost picked up Emmerich's Godzilla the other day.  2012 seems to be getting good reviews....I read Eberts review in the newspaper yesterday and almost fell on the floor stunned.

Watched UP last night..thought it was excellent.  I've got GI Joe in my Blockbuster queue and I've got The Echo sitting here waiting to be watched......maybe tonight.

 THANKYOUSIR! May i have another!

I have the 90s Godiza on its way to me from Amazon, along with UP, Monsters Inc, Logan's Run, and i dont remember what. I had to cut back on my up-coming Blu-ray releases, going broke!
I was at the shop yesterday, and was not tempted to buy any Emmerich movies.  None at all.  I've never had a problem with that temptation.  I can blissfully ignore that mans films, and live with my fond memories of getting upset and yelling at them on the single viewings I've given them.

I did buy UP (fancy steal case edition with handsom cover art!) and NBK DC (miss priced, got it for $12!).  I plan to buy Fight Club next week (on sale, $20!).  I'm skipping GwtW, since I got the Ultimate DVD and can sleep through that version just fine without it being Blu.  I  haven't seen that Ultimate Watchmen anywhere, so I think either I have the release date wrong, or it's a figment of my imagination, or it's incredibly limited and didn't make it across the tundra to Canada.

Well no.2 you're about 800 posts ahead of numero 3 Mr.Zen Butler, and I can't remember the last time he posted here. Parker's currently no.4, Mike Frezon is fifth and RickER may be shocked to learn he's sixth with over 1000 posts! Only 6 of us has passed 1000 posts in testy, 2 have passed 2000 posts, and one of us is well past 6000 posts [cue gasps] half his total forum post input is in.. this.. thread!

Btw I've passed the 12,000 post mark, again. I hit 12,000 before, about a year ago, and here I am passing 12,000 posts again, woohoo! I lost hundreds of posts during the great forum upheaval of 2009.

The best quality blu-ray I've seen so far is a film that's nearly 50 years old. How the West Was Won, they really went all out for this film. A beautiful job of remastering the landscapes look perfect, no shimmering, no haloing, the colours are great too. The amount of detail on display is incredible, what was I watching all these years?

How the West Was Won 01

How the West Was Won 02

"There's an entirely different universe beyond that black hole. A point where time and space as we know it no longer exists. We will be the first to see it, to explore it, to experience it!"

I also watched Disney's The Black Hole, unfortunately seeing the film upscaled on a 42" screen showed up all the wiring holding up the floating robots and some floating humans too. Why didn't Disney paint over them or something? Didn't they have the technology to erase wires in 1979? Or they just didn't care? So many wires it was like watching Thunderbirds for chrissakes. The film is still enjoyable, some of the effects are interesting but it's not one of the Disney greats, and it needs a lot of remastering especially after just seeing How the West Was Won.

Russ, I watched the film you mentioned I might like a while back -- Fifty Dead Men Walking.  It was pretty interesting, though I had a bit of trouble with the accent at times.

So many Blus coming out in time for the holidays.  I have a bunch enroute, including Heat, Love, Actually; Leon; sex, lies and videotape; Star Trek.  And that Blu of Rome is very tempting, though I need to wait for a price drop.  And ordered some Criterions at the B&N sale -- a couple of Blus, a couple of SDs.

Ha ha, those Irish and their gibberish eh?  I grew up with thick Scottish accents so I'm pretty good with them.  It wasn't a bad film though either.

Following Testy advice, I watched "UP" on the weekend.  Yes, it was good, and I agree that it just might be the best film of the year.  That said, a little warning about it being a bit sad would of been nice!  Here I am, in a room full of dudes, all of us weeping, it was like a group meeting instead of a movie night!

We had to watch Black Dynamite and Ultimate Fighting after wards to get our testicles back.  :P

My next blu purchase will be Fight Club.  I love that movie.

I loved UP, definitely one of the best films of the year and a lock for Best Animated Movie at the Oscars. But it wasn't the most popular animated movie of the year, that honour goes to Ice Age; Dawn of the Dinosaurs which grossed an incredible $878m worldwide, nearly $300m nore than UP did. Only Shrek 2 has grossed more in the animation genre.

I bought Star Trek on Blu and it looks stunning, just a shame I can't grab any screenshots to post here. I need a blu-ray drive to do that. Oh well. The 2nd disc was filled to the brim with extras, more than 3 hours worth I'd guess. You get your money's worth. The 3rd disc will make a good coaster.
