I forgot all about it Rick. It's a miracle I remember anything these days. How are you getting on at the scary challenge? I had to bow out, I wasn't watching enough horror flicks to justify my staying in the game. I have to be in the mood to watch horror and I'd already seen all my Hammer and Universal collections earlier this year. And to be frank I didn't much like the company in that thread, too much cheating (5min cartoons?) and bickering. And lets face it the whole thing is utterly pointless.

I bought my first Blu-ray DVD yesterday! [cue gasps, fistbiting and a belch] Yep I haven't got a Blu-ray player or even an HD tv, but I have a Blu-ray movie! Wolverine, that X-Men Origins thingy which premiered on the net a month before it's cinema release (and still grossed $373m worldwide). It was a 3 disc set, the Blu-ray, digital copy and normal dvd. £17.99. So I can still watch the film until I get the equipment to watch it in Blu. Well it's a start innit?

Disney is really good at putting DVDs with their Blu-ray discs too. I also have The Princess Bride on Blu, and it came with a DVD.

I have not posted in the Challenge in a while. I agree with everything you say on your reasons. Its been almost a week since i watched a movie, much less a scary one, been busy. I have a Hammer Dracula from NetFlix to watch tonight. I have had it sitting out for about 3 or 4 days until i have the time to watch it. I dont even remember which one it is. But i do remember it has Christopher Lee in it...like i am sure most Hammer films have him as Dracula!

I didnt like Woverine as much as i wanted to. It doesnt suck, but it felt a bit cheap. If not for Hugh Jackman, it might of sucked.

I know Wolverine isn't great but I enjoyed it. Plenty of action 100mins just flew by. Liev Schreiber as grinning, menacing Sabretooth, stole the film from everyone else. I never used to rate Liev very highly, but after seeing him in Defiance and Wolverine I'm now a fan.

Yep, Snow White is out in Blu-ray and normal dvd, thats the one I'll get Rick. I just have to make sure I get the one with Snow White centered on the dvd cover and not the Old Hag, what a blunder that was.

One way of noticing if a film isn't anamorphic thru using screenshots, the subtitles stray into the bottom black bar, ooh!

Haha! I knew you couldn't resist chief.

The dialogue in Lifeforce is so gloriously bad even George Lucas would be impressed.

ha ha, I missed the fun!  Nice one guys!

Here's a couple of non-horror reviews, one I just know you've been waiting for. :P

Blood and Bone
Comes off as an excuse for White to show his martial arts stuff, and holy shit does he follow through on that promise! It's a cliched chop socky, but a damned good one since the fights are so bad ass
.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
They toned down the retard level comedy, and as result, I liked this one more then the first film. Sadly, the premise, lead actors and plot are still total shit, but they concentrate more on confusing robot fights (why do all the Decepticons look the same??) so you can sit through it without too much napping.  Actually, slow motion shots of Megan Fox running around in a tank top help the no sleeping factor too....

I had to laugh, that Terminator movie from this summer had giant Terminators looking and behaving like Transformers, while Transformers had a Terminator like Transformer.  They should do a team up Transformers/Terminator film and just get it out of their system!

R2D2 makes a cameo.

*I tried 3 times and 3 different ways to get rid of the "Read More" duplicate, none worked. This will be my last round up on the HTF.  It's too annoying, I'm not retyping these goofy reviews since copying and pasting don't work on the new HTF*

[stumbles into frame] How did you spot R2D2 in all that mayhem Russ? Are you sure it's not a piece of debris shaped like R2D2?

Hey! I didn't even know Transformers was out on DVD yet. I'm almost sure it's not out in the UK. I have to seek it out dude, I thoroughly enjoyed the film. Let me check Play.com and Amazon see if there's a Blu-ray/DVD combo. [leaps out of thread]

According to this:

ILM is sticking R2D2 everywhere.  I didin't see it, my friend read about it on the net and found it on the bluuuuu.  He's in the Star Trek 2009 movie too apparantly.

R2D2 everywhere! I'll watch out for it on Star Trek, Russ cheers. R2D2 had a cameo in Close Encounters too, stuck under the mothership at the climax of the film, I posted a screenshot ages ago.

Transformers 2 is out at the end of november here, doesn't look like there's a format combo. I might just opt for the region 1 dvd for now, £16.99 upscale it and pretend it's HD, no?

Really?  I thought they all cameout at the same time now because of the pirates making them available regardless.  Odd!

You might as well upscale the regular DVD.  In Blu, I couldn't tell any of the robots apart.  Just a mash of metal flying about with no discerning limbs or anything in the battles.  The only ones instantly recognizable were Optimus Prime, Bumble Bee and Amos & Andy....  ;)

Amos and Andy? Why did Bay make the robots so silly? Is that how the cartoon series was? There was one big robot at the end with what looked like his balls dangling underneath, was that necessary? Where's the respect? Aah Michael Bay, gotta love him, no? Wasn't he the guy that turned the terrible attack on Pearl Harbour into a great big slushy girly-boy romance? The attack itself was an eye opener though, 40mins of sustained action, reference quality material for HT systems at the time.

I will opt for the R1 Transformers 2 dvd, it's a 2-discer. I think we're only getting one disc over here, and I like plenty of extras on these huge films.

Which old movie ended with the Columbia logo looking like this? Any guesses?

It was Strait-Jacket, good work Neil. Have you got the film? A 1964 William Castle shocker starring the legendary Joan Crawford, she discovers her husband in bed with another woman, grabs an axe and chops their heads off, and thats just the first 5 minutes...

Strait-Jacket (1964)

I don't, but I did some research a couple of years ago on the different uses of Logo's (like the Paramount Pictures Mountain blending into the movie at the beginning of Raiders) and remembered this one :)

Yay The Wicker Man! The original 1973 classic. It's set on a fictional island called Summerisle, what is stonehenge doing there? A part of stonehenge anyway.

Lord Summerisle, looking suspiciously like Christopher Lee on a bad hair day.

I've never seen it, but I was going to guess "The Wicker Man", too.

I'm so upset The Boondock Saints: All Saints Day is only getting a 65-screen release this weekend.  I so wanted to see it.  Hopefully, it does very well on those screens and goes much wider soon.

[Steve tries his best to console an upset Elizabeth] Hey I'm sure Boondocks will be out on dvd within a few months. Come on cheer up Liz I mean it's not like you're never going to see it. Plus it's not scary enough for Halloween. And Christian Bale isn't in it. That Michael Jackson thingy is out this week, just perfect for Halloween! [ooh! made a few enemies there I'm sure] I mean Sean Patrick Flanery for chrissakes! [Elizabeth gestures obscenely, Steve gives up]

I like Sean Patrick Flanery.    I hear he looks very different now, though, like he had cosmetic surgery.

I guess I can go see "A Serious Man" this weekend.  I love the Coens, but I'm not so sure about this one. . .  On the other hand, "Men Who Stare at Goats", which opens next week, has a Coen Brothers vibe, though it has nothing to do with them.

I was taking a little informal poll around the office about the moral dilemma posed by the ads for "The Box", which opens next week.  While I'm sure the film is much more complex, the stripped down question being "You get one million dollars for pushing the button.  But someone you do not know in the world will die."  Push the button - yes or no?  So far, I have 6 nos and 3 yeses.  I'm surprised.

You mean he doesnt look like Young Indiana Jones now?
I saw a trailer for "The Box", DON'T PUSH THE BUTTON!  If you do, the box goes to someone you don't know, and they get to push the button... ON YOUR LIFE!  No, I didn't see the movie, I saw the 50 year old Twilight Zone episode and I'm guessing this is a rip off.   SPOILER ALERT!
