I haven't seen Cees in ages, is he still around? I'll tell you a funny story about Cees, I used to um threadfart in ChrisDACs long running anime thread in Software ages ago, just for a lark, Chris is one of the droogs here. And good old Cees doing his job would remove my post from the anime thread, and a month or two later, bored I'd venture off to Chris's thread and post some silliness with Cees not far behind ready to delete my post. So, one day I came across some interesting anime information that I thought Chris and his anime buddies would appreciate and posted it in the anime thread. Well a few hours later I check to see if there was any response to my post and it's gone, no post, Cees, bless him, had removed it.

Let's face, one Christou's enough around here!

I've decided to skip work this afternoon to try to catch District 9. You all better appreciate the effort!

This is the kinder, gentler HTF. We're all giving people more rope. Some of them hang themselves much more effectively than any of us ever could.

Not only is Cees still "here" (on HTF), but he was also recently here in New York City (or New Amsterdam, or whatever). We got together for dinner and talked about many things. Some of you should still have your ears burning. Others were ignored completely. You'll have to guess which is which.

Btw everyone Russell has started the Scary Movie Challenge over in Movies if anyone wants to participate. I might give it a go, but I've already had my fill of horror movies this year, we'll see.

Kindler, gentler? What?

Cees is a good bloke, we used to chat a lot by PM. Jack Briggs too, though he seems to have retired from active posting. He has many fascinating posts in this thread, from 6 or 7 years ago.

Jack got very busy with work, but he still drops in from time to time.
Another spammer just got zapped. No one on the forum ever saw him. I love the smell of burning spammer in the morning.

Hmmm if it was my job to repel spammers, there'd be fewer members on the forum, anyone with a weird name would have got the boot. Yeah, cold got to be, you know? sheeet.

Has Henry up there passed the grade yet? I noticed he added an amp to his profeel, a good sign? Onkyo. [cue wince]

Profile information, if filled out, can be a big clue. F'rexample, if you're on the forum of an anime convention in Texas, & somebody has "Age : 45, Location : Sri Lanka, Interests : Motorcross", you don't really have to wait for him to post about how to get Xanax online. An IP address in the former Soviet bloc, or a registration email which is a long string of gibberish @gmail.com, are other good tipoffs. Every forum has its own unique millieu, but after a while moderating or administering a particular one, you get a feel for what's legit & what isn't.

I haven't started the official thread yet, look for it later today or tomorrow. :)
That said, here's a mini-round up for the weekend!
So there you are, I had more to say about Black Godfather I guess. Weird eh? But yeah, District 9 was good stuff. I'm with Steve on not liking the the shaky cam. It made some of the action hard to figure out. That said, the film mostly made sense, and it moved along at such a quick pace I simply got caught up in it. I hope for a sequel where Christopher Johnson or whatever his name is returns in 3 years with a can of whoop ass!

Starting another scary movie thread? Whats wrong with the one you already have?
IP and iffy profile info Chris? hmmm I think we have a winner. Though I liked my "stupid name fook off" idea better. [snort]

The current scary movie thread isn't all official looking. I'll start a new one with a subject line matching the other ones, and that lists the guidelines in the first post. This is the single most important event on the HTF Steve, it just HAS to look good! :P
As far as your reviews, I know a bunch of people who liked GI JOE, and no one who liked Transformers 2. Seth Rogan hated it to. He was on Howard Stern, and Howard asked him if it was true that he told Jonah Hill to not accept a part in Transformers 2 that he was offered. Seth said that he totally did. So Howard was all "Was that actually good advice, to tell your friend not to be in a big blockbuster movie?" Seth responds "Did you see that piece of shit? He's doing alright, he shouldn't take jobs like that." :P
Speaking of Seth, "Observe & Report" came out on DVD this week. I have to pick that one up, my favorite Seth Rogan movie. I never cared for the guy, but between him being on Howard Stern and the above movie, I've warmed to him. Seems like a real down to earth guy.

I liked Observe & Report too and will eventually add it to the collection.
I still haven't bought Wolverine and it's been out on R1 for a while now. I think I'll wait another month for the R2 double pack which includes the blu-ray and normal dvd, £17.88 at Amazon.

Everyone who's posted here on the subject of spammer detection is right, because all that stuff is part of the mix. But that's about all I can say. Sorry. (Not really, but it's the kind of thing you're supposed to say.
)
And yes, Steve's right: I did enjoy Transformers 2, because it was one of the summer's best comedies. It had more big laughs than Seth Rogen's film Funny People, which was billed as a comedy (and, in fairness, had some funny parts), but was actually a drama and a pretty tough one at that.
Excuse me now, but I have to finish an HTF DVD review of a TV series from Steve's native land, because it streets next week.

Well, I guess everyone enjoyed District 9 more than me.
I'm thinking about going to Atom Egoyan's Adoration this weekend if I'm not too lazy. And I'm still working on reading "The Queen's Fool" by Philippa Gregory. I do not know my British history.
Most of my TV shows have started, so not finding much time to watch Blus or DVDs. I tried "Flash Forward" last night and was quite bored throughout most of it. However, an intriguing plot point showed up in the last 5 minutes to get me to continue with it for now. "Sons of Anarchy" started Season 2 off amazingly. I was disappointed with low numbers for the season premiere of "Law & Order: SVU". I'm telling you, that Jay Leno is totally messing up NBC's schedule! Who is the fool that put all of the network's fortunes in Leno's hands?!?!

Possible spammer?
You guys know how much i loved Transformers, and funny how i equally hated number 2. Strange how that stuff works!
Hey Russ, how is the audio and picture quality on The Black Godfather? We are dyin to know! Was it at least anamorphic widescreen, did it have DTS sound?

Was it the shaky cam that mostly turned you off on District 9 Steve? I'm too lazy to go back and read your review. :P
Nice list, 1979 was a good year! Classics like THE MANITOU! Truth be told, the book was better. Yes, I actually read the book version of THE MANITOU before I knew there was a movie.
Here's my last round up before the horror challenge since I doubt I'll get any more movie watching in before the start. So enjoy this, and feel free to join the horror challenge if you haven't already! :D
(I cheated on Point Break, I've only watched the first half or so last night. I can't imagine the film so tanks in the second half that I'm going to dock it, but I'll keep you posted.)
I also watched Superman/Batman : Public Enemies which is a direct to DVD cartoon. It's really good as far as story and action, but it looks a bit cheap compared to the other DC Direct releases like The New Frontier. It's too bad, since this would of kicked ass with a better budget. Still worth a watch though.

Who says Russell and I don't review the same movies? I just posted the HTF Blu-ray review of this one.
Russ, you haven't a clue what this movie is about.

You must not have read it all the way through.
I get a lot of that. When I reviewed Revolutionary Road, I drew an extended comparison between the film and the series Mad Men. Someone replied (I'm paraphrasing): "Nice review. You might also like Mad Men." I appreciated the compliment, but I knew he hadn't read the review.

Russell I can't remember what I thought of District 9, I know it wasn't favourable.
And from what I've read of Jennifer's Body I think I'll skip the cinema release. Yummy though Foxy Megan is.

I don't like star ratings. I can never figure out how to make meaningful comparisons between films that have nothing in common with each other. I prefer discussion, or nothing.
