Glad you liked LA Confidential, you do have some modicum of taste I suppose.

So Russ, how many Elvis Presley films have we got now, shall we tell the world?

The double posting thing happened automatic, and the way the forum works now, it's a real pain in the ass to fix, so you better bloody well appreciate the effort!!   The forum sucks for spell checking too.  Firefox has a built in spellchecker, and this is the only site on the internet that I've been on that makes it null and void.  Apparently though, the site works better then ever and all the users are wrong to complain about it and  it's our problem that we have to do extra things in order to post like we used to.  Tsk tsk!

I have ALL the Elvis movies!  BWAA HA HAAA!  Thanks Steef!  I'm going to watch them in the horror challenge if it happens this year!  No one else has the balls to watch all those back to back!  The horror!  The horror!  Poor Elvis, trapped in the hellish outer limits of redundent plots, bad soundtrack songs (other then Rock-A-Hula) and a parade of pretty woman, it's like A Nightmare On Elm Street but with 30 odd films! :P

Heh heh, well Russ you did want some films for this years scary movie challenge, last year it was Japanese monster flicks, this year... Elvis. Now I'm a bit of a fan as you know, he made 33 films, 27 in the 1960's! he was churning them out, only a handful were any good, Elvis was getting paid a cool million per film and plenty of pretty young ladies to play with, eventually he got bored of films and went back to the stage. His personal (Greek) doctor made sure he was dead by 1977. Sort of echoing Michael Jacksons death this year, except one dead celebrity was obese and the other painfully thin.

You should see D9 for all the blood and guts spillage alone. You can skip over the boring parts.

Care to elaborate? If there is a bug with double posting I need to let the dev team know about it. What happened with what you are talking about here so I can let them know.

In Firefox if you click hold down the Ctrl key and right click on the word the spell check works as always. Does the built in spell check for the WYSIWYG not work?

I just complained in feedback about the elit ads slowing movement here to a snails pace, everythings moving in slow motion. This new forum software and advertising just don't mix chief, oh the irony of those words.

Parker, the double posting Russell was referring to was about his reviews, he would copy and paste from Word or wherever and for some strange reason the review would be printed twice instead of once, not two posts but two paragraphs one after the other.

Russ has his doodle back! Of course i need my reading glasses to see it!  :P
post #23737 of 28163
Hey yeah, the double posting Parker is from that facebook movie application when I copy from it.  If I write a lengthy review (and we all know they are very in depth and concise examinations of the films...) when that application lists them, it will have a "Read More" thing to click to show it.  I click it and it prints the whole review.

On the old forum, I would copy that, and if I hit post, it would do the double thing that Steve described, here it is:

Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers

It's cheap crap played for laughs that's not all that funny... but I love this movie. The site of Michelle Bauer topless and chain sawing a john to bits never fails to entertain. Add in the dance of the two virgin chainsaws... and all you can say is "CLASSIC!"

Anyways, on the old forum, if I previewed the post, it would show the double posting, and I could edit it.  It doesn't do that now on this new software, it doesn't show the mistake until it's posted.  to get around it now, I have to re-type the longer reviews, hence the "pain in the ass" comment.

The spell check thing I have works like a word document in firefox, underlining in red the spelling mistakes as I type.  In the past, you could right click the word and fix it up right away, which was much faster then the HTF spell checker (which due to reloading, I've lost a post and am hesitant to use).  Now, you can't do that, it comes up with a HTF forum exclusive option list of cut/copy/paste.  Also, right now the words "longer", "very", and "will" are underlined as incorrectly spelled.  Typing it into a gmail, it doesn't flag them, so this new forum software is the cause.  It's the only place on the net I've found this to happen.
--------
Back to Testy, I'll TRY to see D9, but Jeniffers Body is rumoured to have Megan Fox nude in it, and both The Informant and that space movie i outer space that starts with "P" look pretty good so they might get my money before it... :P

I like the doodle avatars too, so I brought back the Vampire.  Truth be told, I got new glasses now so their all out of date. :(

That would be Pandorum, Russ, and it looks way too scary for me.

I may wait until next week when The Invention of Lying opens.

That's the one Liz!  I saw the trailer last weekend, it reminded me of Event Horizon which is about the only Paul WS Anderson film I loved.  Feel free to come by Liz if you decide you want to see it and need someone to hold your hand :P

Russell:

As I said above. You can still use the Firefox spellchecker by hitting your Ctrl key and then right click on the word. So just an extra key to use. I will look to the double posting thing.

Hmmm interesting I never tried that, after decades of reading and writing in English I trust my speeling capapabilities. Hey come on I like seeing the odd misspelt word in peoples posts just shows we're not perfect, and in Russell's case I enjoy the challenge of decoding his hieroglyphics.... ooh eee... I'm a dead man.

Calm down Russ, usually I pick on Zen's weird posts, and well, since he isn't here....

Where is Zen? We're overdue his yearly post. Zeeennnnn! [sobs]

Pandorum?

Hey that does look interesting.

This is the film to watch in October -

It looks good too, but there's already a great zombie comedy Shawn Of The Dead!  And it has that kid who does the Michael Cerra impression from Adventureland that got on my nerves.

Parker, don't fret too much about the double posts.  It only happens when I copy and paste the reviews, I'll deal with it.  So as not to deprive you guys of the awesome reviews :P

Shaun of the Dead is a hard act to to follow, one of my favourite films of recent years, even the people who made it couldn't top it.

So wait, Zombieland is the sequel to Adventureland?

And chief, it's not double posts it's double paragraphs, and only Russell is capable of such things.
I'm special in my postings!

I think Zombieland is an un-official sequel.  It's like, the next summer and Zombies are all over the place or something.  I'm not too sure.  Am I the only one who saw Adventureland?

I should have Beatles Rockband waiting for me when I get home for my PS3.  I'm very excited.  The one I'm really hoping for is The Who Rockband with guitars you can smash and rebuild, and a drum kit you can kick all around the room for extra points.  :P

Nope, no connection. They're just two of the (many) films on Jesse Eisenberg's resume.

(A "Michael Cerra [sic] impression"? Hardly. See The Squid and the Whale or The Education of Charlie Banks.)

Wahay! Michael, welcome to Testyland!

So the only connection between the two is... Jesse Eisenberg, what are the odds he would appear in Adventureland and Zombieland in the same year eh?

The Who Russ? Ron was reviewing something very Who-ish earlier today, check it out dude. I think it's in the blu area? I've forgotten sorry.

Edit - Here it is -

mmmm

Are you… Who-ish? You don't look Who-ish.
I've found I can insert code &c. if I use the Preview function, not once, but twice in a row ;  that might also solve Russel's problem.  (In other words, the first time I preview it, it just shows up in the text, but the second time it's interpreted, & I post that.)

Thank you. I am everywhere.

Actually, these days I'm mostly nowhere. Between spam control, which is my appointed task, and disc reviews, which I started doing for fun, I don't post much anymore. (Yeah, I know, it's an improvement.)

Spam control? How does that work? Those newbies with funny names that pop up every now and than? You kick them off before they do much damage?

I sometimes wish I could review dvds and movies like you guys, after a couple of paragraphs I keep thinking I should wrap things up quickly in case I bore everyone. And some guys in the Movies area do go on a bit with their reviews, reams of text, I know they're enthusiastic but you know sometimes a paragraph might have sufficed and got to the point quicker.

If I told you, I'd have to kill you.

Seriously, though, no one discloses their anti-spam measures. No reason to give the bastards clues on how to circumvent them.

And ahem is spam control more of a problem on Huddler HTF than vbulletin HTF? [Michael grinds teeth] Messing with you Michael.

Looking forward to The Invention of Lying? Anyone? I think Elizabeth mentioned it earlier. Ricky Gervais, not really my favourite comedian, but this does look interesting. Jennifer Garner! (I miss Alias... sniff)

I just had my first pop-up on the HTF! Damn i hate those things!

I enjoy reading your reviews Michael, but i have to admit, my taste in film is more like what Russ reviews. Yea, i like your reviews too Russ.

Did i ever tell you guys i rented that Giant Shark movie Steve recommended? Best part was the shark jumping out of the water to catch the 747, at however many 1000s of feet in the air. A classic movie moment.

I remember that, how can I forget it?

Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus 1

And here is that lovely moment courtesy of Google images, wouldn't you freak out seeing that? The last thing you expect to see out of your airplane window, a flying shark. [sniggers]

Nah, it take a LOT more than that to get my teeth grinding. Spam is the same problem everywhere. It's the internet. It was just a matter of learning how to deal with it using different tools, and the Huddler guys have been great to work with, at least on this issue, which is the one I've had the most involvement with. Things are under control right now, but soon enough the spammers will come up with something new, and we'll have to scramble for a new defense.

Thanks, Rick. You must be thinking of someone else, because there's no "Russ" among the reviewers. Unlike the guys assigned to major studios, I don't usually get high-profile titles. I have to choose from the smaller stuff that doesn't have anyone assigned to it. Every so often, though, I luck out with something like Mad Men.

Oh sorry Michael, Russ is one of the guys who posts here in the Testy thread, not a HTF reviewer. Although, it would be interesting if he was a reviewer! We like to put our movie "blogs", if you will, in this thread. Russ does his up all pretty, and fancy.
Got it. What's the difference between Russ's taste and what I review? (This should be interesting, considering the weird mix of stuff that ends up on my plate.)

The difference is, I have GOOD taste! BWAA HA HAA!!

Just kidding, I think Rick likes how lazy and short my mini-round up reviews are.  I have nearly 1200 under my belt!  Holy Moley eh?  I was going to apply for a reviewer spot when there was a call out a year or so ago, but I'm just not fussy enough about PQ and A/V and PDQ and whatever else qualities there are, and I'd rather make a fart joke then seriously analyze anything. :P

Thanks for a link to the Who DVD Steve, I'm going to pass on it though.  It looks like a dodgy one cashing in on The Who's name.  It says there very little out there on The Who, despite no less then 2 really good documentaries being out there.

Beatles RockBand is as good as I hoped it to be... to much fun!  I don't think I'm ever going to get around to watching a movie on my PS3.  Speaking of Beatles, I've been listening to that fancy Mono Set that came out.  Sgt. Peppers really does sound better in mono, they weren't just being snooty!  Or maybe the snoot rubbed off on me...

I'm going to watch all those crazy monster movies Steve talked about for the horror challenge this year.  :D

1200 mini-reviews Russ? Wow our very own Leonard Maltin, the mind boggles [cue snort, drink spitting, coughing] . Maybe we should gather up all the various reviews contained in this tome of a thread, sort them in alphabetical order and publish them along with a few choice screenshots from yours truly. The Testy Movie Guide 2010. The front cover will of course have that shot of Sean Connery with gun in red nappy pose from Zardoz, the frontispiece will be Russells fanged doodle and... we have a winner, instant bestseller. [falls off chair giggling inanely]
