Do my eyes deceive me or do I see a new High Definition section?
Unfortunately the move also unsubscribed everyone from each of those threads, so I suspect many will be scratching their heads wondering why no one is talking about HD lately.

The mods will also likely be busy trying to prevent duplicate threads being started in both HD and SD forums for a little while until everyone gets up to speed.

A funny thing happened at my local dvd store the other day, whilst I was browsing around I noticed this guy picking up a copy of City of God staring at it for a couple of seconds than he gently kissed the cover put it back on the shelf and walked out... not that there's anything wrong with that of course. I mean I do that too but it usually has some gorgeous half naked girl on the cover[STOP IT STEVE!]

Nils, yep Toys and what a strange film it was too, picked it up for £4, not exactly a blind buy I'd last seen it about 10 years ago and wanted to see if it got better with age, absolutely awful, with only the design and some of the music worth noting. Robin Williams was in his annoying manchild mode and Joan Cusack, who I can't stand even when she's voicing a character in Toy Story 2, was even worse, directed by Barry Levinson who should know better, dire is the word. But I'll probably give it another go in 10 years when I've forgotten it and it's on HD for about £4...

Y'know, I don't often take sick, but when I do I go down fast. About 4 PM yesterday, I started to feel like I was sickening for something. I've just spent an absolutely awful night, and if I get up and move around I feel like King Kong, or some other victim of poor stop-motion animation. Did you know it's possible to be both overheated and struck with chills, at the same time?
Yes, that's quite normal for a fever. Your body gets signals that it is too cold - that's why you shivering - and your temperature rises.

It's most outspoken during the moments when a fresh tsunami of products of the bacteria who are now feasting somewhere in your body are released in your bloodstream.

Did you know that the reason you get chills when you have a fever is that your raised core body temperature makes the relative room temperature feel that much colder causing your body to react as if it were in a colder environment.

Blast! You beat me to it Cees, man that was quick. And I thought I had no life

Hah. That's precisely why I put myself under an electric blanket the moment I started feeling uneasy. Even with the heated blanket to trap the heat against my body [and I was sweating like a horse], I was still getting chills. I did manage to avoid shivering, mostly.

Dehydration and chest congestion are the worst.

I've been reading on how videogames have been eclipsing movies in popularity. 2004 cinema grosses totalled $9.4 billion, the amount generated by sales of videogames and consoles that year totalled $9.9 billion!
There are many examples, but currently the James Bond Games have a ROI many times grater than their film counterparts. GoldenEye cost ~$100 million dollars to make, and in the US, it took in just over $100 million in box office revenue and likely another $100 million in DVD video sales and rental over the last ten years.

The game version cost $2 million to make and in less than a year it brought in over $250 million from sales in North America, excluding rental revenue. All this despite receiving many mediocre reviews. Now if you were a producer, which would you put your money in?

I wonder if the Mission to Mars game was more popular than the film, Nils?

Yeah it's come as a bit of a shock to me how popular the game industry has become. A shock because presumably after you've played the game a few times and won or completed it you will lose interest and go on to the next game. With movies you still want to watch your favorite films no matter how many times you've seen them or how old they become, can you say the same for games? Do kids still play their old computer games?

In other news Harry Potter has recently sprinted past Anakin Skywalker to the finish line. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire has grossed $851.8m in worldwide grosses, overtaking Star Wars III Revenge of the Sith which totalled $848.3m, both films massive successes in a duff year for movie attendances.

While Harry Potter was ultimately the no.1 2005 release, Sith was no.1 film in the year 2005 and was far more popular than HP in the U.S.

I think the main difference with video games is how much time and effort it takes to complete one of them, even for the most skilled players. It takes dozens of hours for even a super gaming ace to beat something like a James Bond game, doesn't it? Time-wise, it's the equivalent of watching a movie many dozens of times, not just once. The days of Asteroids are long gone, Steve.

Hmmm looking at that worldwide gross chart, the top 20 includes 4 Harry Potters, 3 Star Wars, 3 Lord of the Rings, 2 Jurassic Parks and 2 Spider-man movies. And where's King Kong? Wasn't it supposed to be climbing the top of those charts, challenging Titanic? $500m worldwide still impressive though, for a 3-hour monster movie. Kong beaten by Narnia must be something of an embarrasment to Peter Jackson though.

Yeah I haven't been into games since the early 80's Haggai, I tried playing King Kong on my young cousins PSP and gave it back to him after a few attempts, just not my thing, graphics have come a long way though.

Well, once again my dangerously overenthusiastic immune system has dealt with the problem in its own inimitable way, turning the common cold into a brief but incredibly violent near-death experience. Fever isn't entirely gone yet, but I no longer feel addled, so the release of toxins into the bloodstream must have stopped.

Wont that be a scary thing if it turns out your the one who had it easy

I watched The Commitments last night for the first time in years, and loved it all over again. I have to say though the inability to stop talking with a Northern Irish accent is getting a bit annoying. I watched the SE and loved seeing the true "Where are they now" segment as well as a very thorough "making of" featurette for the time (1991)

I picked up the special edition of The Mark of Zorro (1940) today, £12 region 1, an old classic favorite of mine, and a big favorite of me dads, he really loved those old swashbucklers, usually starring Errol Flynn or Tyrone Power. The dvd contains a 45min documentary on Tyrone and a commentary, on side b there is a colorized version of the film [who fainted?] and a stereo track, surprised they didn't crop the top and bottom and present it as a widescreen movie too.

FIREFOX! FIREFOX! FIREFOX! I've joined the Firefox browser club, after 8 years with IE, no actually 7 years, I had Netscape Navigator (anyone remember that?) when I first got onto the net. I had problems with IE recently I couldn't log on to Photobucket.com and a few other websites, all I got was a blank page, tried everything, nope, blank page, installed Firefox everything's back, web pages load faster too.

Yeah, your using it (sort of anyway). Welcome to the FireFoxFold ye most ancient of droogsters. Make sure you check out what is argueably the biggest advantage FireFox has over other browsers - the plugins

Glad to. Here are a couple of the most helpful things that I have found while using FireFox:

1. Extensions: Extensions are "plugins" for FireFox that either add to or enhance its stock functionality. There is one for every occasion and function, and the amount you have installed doesnt seem to slow performance at all (that I have seen). Although MozillaUpdate is the official place for FireFox extensions (and many can be located there) there are many sites maintained by individual developers that offer additional ones.
note: Use extensions from other sites with caution, as they are not necessarily endorsed by Mozilla

2. Tabbed browsing: Instead of having multiple windows open for multiple sites, FireFox provides you with the option of opening multiple sites in multiple tabs (see image below). You can go to Tools>Options>Tabs to configure this function without using any Extensions; However there is an extension called "TabBrowser Extensions" (intuitive eh') that gives you tons of control over how and when tabs are used, much recommended.

3. Search Plugins: In the upper right hand corner of FireFox you will see a small window that looks like the address window. This is a search box where you can drop down a list and select from various search engines. You can then search for whatever you type in that box using the selected search engine/site. The cool thing about this is that there are tons of sites to search from actual search engines like Google, to eShops like Amazon, or eBay. You can find additional sites to add to the list here on the search box project page.

I've been using Firefox as well. I haven't tried any of those plugins, but I really like the tabbed browsing.

These days I use Opera. I got a free registration in a promotion, just before they made it free for everybody. It does tabbed browsing, search functions, &c. It has its quirks, but on balance I'm happy with it.

Chris I'm suprised, I would have pegged you as a FireFox user for sure. That scenario you just mentioned sounds like the computer equivalent of dating the hot chicks' gimped out moley sister because a long time ago she used to live closer than the hot chick

Hmmm FireFox... great plane, but I keep forgetting to talk to it in Russian.

[Haggai points to computer screen]

ooooh... that "FireFox" :b

I've been using FireFox for a while and love it, but I still have not warmed up to using the tabs. Part of the problem is that while I might have several browser windows open, i also like to close those that I am no longer looking at, and find it easier, and quicker to do by CTRL+W, but if I do that with a window full of tabbed web pages, then I lose them all. I'm sure part of the problem is changing my habits, but for now I still stick with having multiple browser windows vs using the tab feature. Just call me old-fashioned.

Thanks Elijah, I'll check out those extensions, looks good, I like the search box.

See, the tabbed browsing is one of the best parts, as far as I'm concerned. Particularly when I'm doing HTML editing, I often have a pretty big number of windows open; under Internet Explorer, this would often cause the icons in the menu bar to collapse into a list [which always reverses the order!], and then I couldn't as readily navigate between them.

Opera is really nice for Web authoring, because of its extremely literal interpretation of HTML and CSS. Of course, that means I have to look over things in Internet Explorer afterward to check that I haven't done something Microsoft doesn't like! :b It also has a shortcut for HTML validation, and various other nice tricks. Of course, I write all my HTML by hand, using EDXOR.
Anyway, it has a professional support team, even if they are in Scandinavia. I have had some good results with open-source software in the past, but not always, and it's nice to know that everything's been debugged beforehand.
