The url does sometimes come in useful when you want to make sure eh?

ah yes Reign of Fire, a film whose poster promised ID4 level spectacle but with thousands of long dormant dragons instead of alien ships wiping out humanity, instead we get to see the aftermath of this holocaust, following a group of survivors, led by that kid from Empire of the Sun (so thats what happened to him!), as they try to find and kill the last remaining male dragon. What.. a.. cheat!

One resized dvd shot for each film and a link would have done the job just as well Dale, check out my post on the upcoming Empire of the Sun dvd on the last page, classy eh? 4 huge shots of the new Harry Potter dvd is overdoing it just a tad no? so, bit of a Potter fan I take it?

Silence of the Lambs again? Well I like the film, and the last edition had plenty of extras, how much better can this be I wonder, especially with HD just round the corner, damn it, I must stop thinking of HD! Must not let it influence my buying habits!

Exactly. I am anticipating the conversion from SD-DVD>HD-DVD to be similar to that of VHS>SD-DVD (only quicker). I am expecting to see the first HD releases as somewhat "barebones" similar to the first DVD releases. Not barebones as compared to DVD's (as HD will likely include much of the same) but barebones as in comparison to what HD will hold in just a few years.

Just as we have been re-purchasing old DVD releases becase transfer techniques and DVD content (extras,commentaries...) have progressed through the years, I have no doubt that HD early adopters will find themselves gradually re-purchasing "those old cruddy first HD releases"

This combigned with the fact that all HD hardware will be backwards compatible with SD hasnt really deterred me from gobbling up some of the existing and upcomming DVD sets.

Now one thing I did hold off on buying was the Indiana Jones 4Disc set that came out a year or two ago. With IJ4 "in the works" I am confident that a year or two from now will see a proper release of the then "Quadrilogy" (2 disc's per movie plus an extra disc...)

Same goes for StarWars. I havnt purchased a single StarWars movie except for my DUN DUN DUN LaserDisc "Faces" set.

Elijah, I'm impressed, you held off buying the Indy and Star Wars sets? You saw the boxes in the shops your hands trembling as you reached out to them and resisted the urge? And I assume you're more of a fan of those films than I am, amazing stuff, truly madly deeply amazing, maybe they'll put you on the next series of Ripley's Believe it or Not.

HD round the corner but don't forget the need for HD screens to get the best out of it, here in PAL land, HD is still in it's infancy. I bought a few of those Superbit titles and frankly I saw very little difference between them and the Standardbit editions, I don't want to go thru that again, So I'm not buying HD dvds until we change our tv sets and tv transmissions to HD too. Makes sense yes? But don't worry I'll be knee deep in HD well before I reach me viagra years.

Nope. I've never read the books & only seen the films once each, my girlfriends a big fan though.

I've edited my above post now Steve, so there's no need to put that hit out on me

Talking of HD, I've got myself one of those HD TV majigs but I don't think I'll be buying myself a player for a couple of years yet -- I want everything to settle first me thinks.

Mucho better Dale, neater too. I'll call off the hit.

Cheers Steve, much appreciated, I'm to young to die!

I think I got over excited at some new SD-DVD news, it seems to have been quiet on that front for a while now.

Do my eyes deceive me or do I see a new High Definition section?

Much needed I think, it will be nice to separate the SD-DVD and HD-DVD releases

Dale, havnt you watched the movies; Offering a counter offer (aside from being horribly pathetic) simply means that I now have to keep both ends of the deal and get double paid for two completed jobs

Hey, it was worth a try, in that case I will have to perform that other cliche of trying to leave the country...

I have made a decision to stop purchasing all DVDs now that Blu-Ray & HD-DVD have been announced, except Anime, since anime will probably be the last to make the transition.

Now thats what you call an early adopter. A bit premature if you ask me as there will most likely be sets released in the meantime that will potentially take years to be re-released on HD.
Yeah, uh, I don't have an HDTV, so I don't want to touch HD DVD until I get one. Well, that and I want to see whether Blu Ray or HD DVD wins the format war.

Woohoo! Elijah started the very first HD thread in the very first HD area of the HDF! I was very tempted to post something in there but changed my mind, aren't you lucky?!

Yep but ChrisDAC has him beat by a mile. We may all have the last laugh on the early HD adopters if another even better format gets announced within the next few years, and than it's every man for himself. Format Wars? Format Apocalypse more like. The bide-our-timers will win in the end.

erm I spoke to soon about Elijah starting the very first HD thread in the HD area, an admin just dumped all the old HD threads from the Software area into it, oh well!

As long as there is an "end". You might find yourself waiting forever... Heck my grandfather still owns an extensive phonograph collection and is holding out until these silly CD things give way to a truly superior format...God rest his soul we are going to miss him

He's not alone. E.g. many people are convinced that Vinyl is better. Maybe they have a point...

Yeah, I tried to get Parker to change the title of the thread to "Definitely not first post" but I guess he didnt like the idea

Oh, and has anyone noticed that Bluejeanscable.com has gone bye-bye? Methinks someone forgot to renew their domain name.

Elijah:

I liked First Post.

Also, Blue Jeans Cable is working just fine.

[belches into frame] My how that new area has mushroomed, there was only one thread there a few hours ago now it's HD this and HD that... I think you're onto something here chief, call the presses![stumbles out of frame]

Will the D-VHS threads and my "Big-Ball-o'-Wax MUSE Thread" get moved over? That would make searching easier.

Meanwhile, I've got a fourth speaker to rewire. I moved everything but the speakers the other day, so I have to string new wire -- I have to say, for the cheap push-in type of terminals, the Radio Shack "flat-pin connectors" work great. They're an immense improvement over bare wire, they fit in the holes rliably [unlike bannana plugs] and they don't tend to short like the round-pin connectors.
