Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi epic "The Fountain" set to go - Page 6

Re: Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi epic "The Fountain" set to go

That trailer was really crazy.

I haven't been too hyped for this. I was really sad when I heard that Brad Pitt dropped out of the movie and left it for dead. And then I was trhilled to hear it was being revived, but I haven't really been checking up on it. Anyway, it should be a heck of an experience.

Re: Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi epic "The Fountain" set to go

Its definately one of those trailers where after you watch it you just sit there, staring blankly at the screen, and whatever mood you were in before, you cant help feeling moved. Last time ive felt like this was after Return of the King trailer.

Looks as though Hugh Jackman is gonna show a lot of people what he's made of in this!

Re: Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi epic "The Fountain" set to go

Perhaps I hate to even say this, but the visuals sort of reminded me of how I felt when I saw the trailer to "The Cell". *ducks*

Wow. Just wow.

That's all I can say right now. I hope it lives up to what the trailer shows, because we all know how deceptive those can be.

Re: Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi epic "The Fountain" set to go

My interest in this film just went from "strong" to "off the effin' charts!!!" The story was what originally piqued my interest, and the visuals have proven to be just as beautiful.

Downloading the 1080p version as we speak... Papa needs a new desktop wallpaper

Ricardo, I just downloaded the 1080 one aswell...but quicktime plays it back at about 2 fps! I know this is off topic, but, anyone know how to play HD on QT easily? I have a good video card...ATI X1800XL.

PS...how do i get a screen grab

Video Card isn't as relavent here as RAM and Processor Speed.

I've got 3 GHZ and a gig of ram (and a Geforce 6600gt), and I get perfect playback on 720P, but choppy on 1080p - I'd recommend going with 720p, its still quite beautiful .

Re: Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi epic "The Fountain" set to go

Hey Mike, Im running 3.7ghz and 2 gig or ram so its pretty powerfull, but i think its quicktime. I just tried running it through PowerDVD 7 and it actually worked! Ran perfectly too! I didnt think it would open QT files...wierd.

The trailer is awesome...there is some damn cool shots in there.

Re: Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi epic "The Fountain" set to go

Brettis, my humble PC can't run the 1080p without dropping some frames either, I just got it so I could grab individual frames for wallpaper purposes.

As Mike said, RAM and processor speed are much more important than the actual video card. Also, Quicktime doesn't really do the best job of playing back its own stuff. Give it a try with Media Player Classic and see if you get better results, or Kaffeine, if you have Linux (it runs the new H264 Quicktime HD clips better than Windows, but there are occasional video aberrations).

EDIT: Oops, just realized you found the right combo for you

Re: Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi epic "The Fountain" set to go

So how are you grabbing the screenies? Print screen and paste?

Re: Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi epic "The Fountain" set to go

I use "Edit / Copy" on QT7, and "Save Screenshot" in Kaffeine. For Power DVD the screencap button should do the trick

Re: Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi epic "The Fountain" set to go

Ugh, I need to find a new program myself, then - I hate Quicktime, and get pretty bad image tearing on anything on the program.

Re: Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi epic "The Fountain" set to go

Ok, new question - does anyone know what aspect ratio this is going to be shown at? The trailer is in something like 1.66:1, isn't it? I'm a bit confused, as I don't recall the last film I saw theatrically at that ratio.

Plus, I really love scope films and thought this would lend itself nicely to that, but I don't think it will matter either way.

Re: Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi epic "The Fountain" set to go

1.66:1 is unlikely - most multiplexes can't project it properly.

imdb says 1.85:1.

Oh, and let me add myself to the list of people officially excited by this trailer. Especially considering I have been following this project since it was called "The Last Man" and went through the immense disappointment and anger when, mere weeks before principal photography, Brad Shitt walked out.

Right now I am pretty sure this is going to be awesome. If only Warner knew how to promote it...

Re: Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi epic "The Fountain" set to go

The trailer is 1.75:1, for those curious.

For some reason, the 2nd time I watched this trailer, the less it impressed me.

Re: Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi epic "The Fountain" set to go

Don't watch it again I watched it once, and I'd rather my next look was in theaters.

I don't know if we've discussed it in here, but it's a 96 minute movie. A rather compact epic I couldn't possibly be more excited for the film than I am.

Re: Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi epic "The Fountain" set to go

Well, I've watched the trailer about 10 times (I have lots of free time during summer classes), and it hasn't seemed any less amazing the times I've watched.

Can anyone confirm if it moves at a "Kubrick-esque" pace? I personally am not a fan of either of the films of his I've watched (Clockwork Orange and 2001: A Space Oddysee), but I did enjoy the visual direction of 2001, so I'm hoping it is more like a Ridley Scott or ...welll Requiem for a Dream like pacing, rather then a Kubrick pacing.

If that made any sense at all, that is.

Re: Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi epic "The Fountain" set to go

the problem with quicktime is that it is a package of many other apps like java, flash, html, etc.

the way to properly playback 720p or 1080p h.264 quicktime content is to install coreavc 0.0.0.4 and coreaac as well as haati splitter and use MPC to play it back. first, you need at least r300 and nv40 class video cards. otherwise, it will still be pretty slow. second, 2ghz+ CPU should be alright. otherwise it's going to be slow.

but anything above those spex you should be able to playback 1080p in silky smooth motion. oh, don't use .mov extension, rename it to somn like .hdmov but you must install the coreavc codec.

PS the new trailer is not as good as the teaser imho. the teaser held mystery... this ... is more like the common trailer. downgrade imho.

I don't know anything about this story but that trailer has me showing up on opening day to see this movie. Amazing and beautiful.

unfortunate. i just watched it a second time, and it was at least one order of magnitude more devastating to me...

that trailer is at my emotional resonant frequency: if i watch it a few more times, my heart will explode.

even if the movie chews, i'll have the trailer...

According to boxofficemojo, the release date has been pushed to November 22 (the day before Thanksgiving).

Re: Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi epic "The Fountain" set to go

Juan,
I hope you are kidding. That would seriously ruin my week. They already moved Pan's Labyrinth away from Oct 13. It was going to be my double feature of awesome. Once Pan moved, I still planned on a double feature...of The Fountain.

But I doubt you are kidding, and I doubt BOM is wrong. What a pissing downer

Oh well. Guess it's Bond and the Fountain,
Chuck

Re: Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi epic "The Fountain" set to go

Disappointing, since we rarely get a fall film that looks this promising. But, as Chuck said, a Casino Royale-The Fountain double feature will do nicely.

I just watched the trailer. Amazing visuals. Looks like a powerful story too.

Very excited for this one.

Fiddlesticks.

I'm avoiding the trailer. Moriarty at AICN, who apparently has seen the finished film, says it contains too many pivotal money shots.

Moving closer to awards season. They're getting confident.

That's what I was thinking - Warner must think they have something here.
