Does BEAUTIFUL GIRLS have enough audience to warrant a reissue? - Page 3

I think if they did a tie-in with Star Wars (and hopefully not with a printed blurb on the cover), they could generate some retail exposure. However, it is way beyond late for that this year.

I do hope Miramax revisits some of their initial LD ports with proper transfers, otherwise I'll end up buying the R2 versions if they are superior.
Did they ever think that if they put out a good version of the film to begin with, same with top gun, more people would have bought the movie?

Just a thought:-)

I would love have this rereleased!!!

Because of this thread I bought Beautiful Girls. I'd by an anamorphic version if it was released.
Yes, I'd buy an upgrade in a second!
Miramax certainly has quite a few DVDs that IMHO will generate enough interest if re-issued with a better anamorphic transfer. Beautiful Girls and Life is Beautiful are the ones I'd certainly grab.

I presently own it but if a better version came around then I'd get that too in a second. Great film. A definite hidden jewel.

Since it's been 6 months since this came up last, figured I'd check to see if anyone has heard any rumbling about a reissue, or if anyone else wanted to add their name to list who want one.

Is there a decent version in any other regions in NTSC? There seems to be a few Reg 2 releases that are decent- but I'd prefer NTSC- is there maybe a decent japanese release?

The current DVD has a 2.0 surround track...

I own the current disc and am rather happy with it, course I wouldnt exactly not buy a new one. Great movie!

I'd love to see it reissued, especially with a release of the TV Series spin off GOING TO CALIFORNIA. One of the best, underseen TV series of the past couple years. While not an actual spin off, it is by the same writer, begins in the same kind of town and first episode is like a BEAUTIFUL GIRLS sequel. Great show.
The audio was 2.0 surround. Sorry, my bad.

Jon, I'd love to see that show, any idea where to catch the show now?

The guys in BG are just like the guys I grew up with in western mass. Watching it feels like "home". Originally I borrowed the disc from another HTF memeber, anson. I watched it 3 times that weekend, I bought it the following week.

There really might not be much that could be added to the dvd, but I'd like to know if that is the case.

I have recently seen this movie on HBO. From those broadcasts, I went and purchased the DVD. I didn't even know it was available on DVD until I read a review of the moive in Video Hound. It got a lukewarm review, but I really like this movie. Having grown up in a very small town I remember a lot of guys like the locals in this movie. This is a very accurate portrayal of these people.

I was surprised to see in the credits that the movie was actually filmed in Minnesota and partly in Stillwater, MN, a town I visited a few years ago on vacation. Stillwater, MN is the current residence of Jessica Lange and Sam Shepherd, FWIW.

Just another shameless attempt to drum up interest in a reissue. Anyone else?

Is this version anamorphic, and is R2 Spain a PAL or NTSC format?

I'd say it is

I believe all of Europe (except France) uses PAL. France uses Secam for broadcast and used it for VHS, don't know about DVDs.

The description you quoted lists it as both anamorphic and PAL.

This is a great movie.

Put me down for purchasing a Special Edition.

The problem is the current DVD is seriously lacking. To be fair, the disc hit shelves in early 1999, kinda in the infancy of DVD. The picture is non-anamorphic widescreen Laserdisc recycle and there is nothing on the disc but the film.
I own the DVD and although it doesn't have any extras, the image, while not reference quality, is reasonably good (yes, I have a 16x9-enhanced TV).

I'm tempted by the inexpensive R2, but I would probably wait for an SE since I've waited this long already.
I would also love to get my hands on an SE.

I'd be in...

Man....! Remember how GOOD Natalie P. was in this? SMOKED everyone else off the screen. AND in HEAT, and in LEON...

What the heck happened in these SW films...?!?!?!?!?
YES! I would love to have a real version of this most excellent film. Natalie was outstanding in this movie, I have no idea what happened to her in the Star Wars movies.

I couldn't agree with you more. But then again, pretty much every person in the two new SW films have been terrible! So maybe it's not the actor just the crappy script and directing. Don't get me started on how bad those movies SUCK!

:b Okey dokey! My greatest post ever!
I like Natalie's performance in this even more than Leon so you bet I'd be there for an SE. Heck, even Rosie O'Donnell serves her purpose in this picture.

No hesitation. It'd be mine....

I've never seen this film, but it's the kind of movie I'd be interested in seeing. I'd buy it if a better version came out (at least anamorphic).

Not to be cheeky, but isn't the film suppossed to take place in Massachusettes???

Although I believe it was filmed in Minnesota (& Stillwater).

EDIT: I see that Marty has confirmed that it was filmed in MN & Stillwater, although set in Mass. So my memory (nor my vision) isn't that flaky.

I've had excellent experience with CD-WOW.

The only real problem is that they charge your credit card at the moment you order, which I don't like when I'm pre-ordering stuff.

Always order through this link though:

http://www.cd-wow.com/promotion.php?...27-70423-39833

It will magically save you GBP 1,-
So thank you very much, I just ordered it for GBP 4.99. (= US$ 7.96 incl. worldwide delivery)
