The rave reviews I'm reading about this film,(except for Ron's), are making me salivate. I was already planning on seeing the film but now I'm really anxious to see it. I don't ususlly go to films on opening weekends but in this case I might make an exception.

Same here Jay. I'm going to hit the theater straight from work tomorrow. I can't wait!

My review will be up later tonight, but Minority Report may be my favorite movie so far this year. (I need to see it again to be sure.)

From my good buddy James Berardinelli's review:

Minority Report rivals some of Spielberg's top adventure/science fiction epics, such as Close Encounters and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Now that's some high praise indeed!

I checked the times for Minority Report, and found it odd that each theater I looked at only had about 4 showings in a day of the film. Anyone know why that might be? It will be very crowded.

It might be only showing on one screen at said theaters, but I highly doubt that. If you're looking at Fandango's site or any site that takes their info from Fandango, you might want to check again tomorrow as they usually don't post all the times till opening day of the movie.

After all the rave reviews, I'm going to see the film either tomorrow or Saturday. I can't wait to see what Spielberg has in store for us.

And it's a somewhat-longer-than-usual movie, at 140 minutes (plus previews).

I've already purchased my ticket for the 4 PM show tomorrow!! Now I'm just praying that no emergencies pop up at work tomorrow PM...

Not sure if people are aware of this little fact (I wasn't) - Minority Report is based on a short by Philip Dick (1956). He also wrote the short story for which Blade Runner is based on.

Pretty fine pedigree...I'm anxiously awaiting this movie. I've never seen so many movies on opening night in one year. This one will probably be added to the list.

I'll be seeing it in just over three hours. Man I love being well hooked up.

Roger Ebert's 4 star review of Minority Report:

A month ago I was only slightly interested in this movie, but now I can't wait. Tomorrow can't get here soon enough!

Rotten Tomatoes has 45 reviews for Minority Report. Only one is negative! That's very impressive!
A little off topic here...

So I go to buy tickets for it. But I can't buy them for MR at any AMC/GC in my area. What the heck? I can buy tix for it at the Loews and other theaters. I can buy tix for any other movies. No, it can't be that all the shows for the next week at 20 theaters are sold out...

Anyone else run into the same thing and know why? (It's been like this for a couple days.)

Minority Report definitely looks like a movie I will love. I like futuristic city type movies. I loved Blade Runner, Total Recall, and the beginning of Episode II and this looks even better. Spielberg is most definitely at the most interesting point in his career. A.I. was easily one of the better films of last year, even if it was a modern remake of Pinocchio.
OK, my review is up in the appropriate thread. Plus it's on the TOP of the Minority Report page over at Rotten Tomatoes! (I love when they list the critics in Z - A fashion!)

This seems to be one of those movies you like MORE a few hours after watching it. Hope you guys have a great time with it!

Nice review Scott...I am so looking forward to this flick. Gonna see it tomorrow FOR SURE.
Thanks for posting the review, much better than I can put into words . You nailed it Scott, its better a few hours after viewing it.

I'm not reading yet because I want no spoilers, but this is the only place that I can say that I'm more excited because I forgot that Scott Frank was writing and that I LOVE Get Shorty and Out of Sight (the 2 best Elmore Leonard translations IMO).

I'll be joining the club tomorrow and noon Indy time.

did anyone see ebert when he reviewed Minority Report on his nice little television show? i happened to be watching, and he showed clips from it that gave me intense goose bumps!! he kept showing the combination of classic film techniques and new aged technology and how they are intertwined to make a masterpiece. i am so psyched about seeing it tonight!!!!

One critic here in Boston has given the movie 4 stars. He NEVER gives sci-fi more than 3 stars. He seems to have a biased against sci-fi IMO.

I was thinking that this was a DVD purchase but now I'll be headed to the theater asap.

Seth,
I didn't realise Scott Frank had wrote the screenplay until I sat through the credits. Out of Sight was one of my favorite films of the 90's. It was a definitely a surpise when I saw his name. I'm glad I knew nothing when I went to see it as well.

I was looking for Ron's review. Where is it?

Thanks for the link. I'm actually surprised at Ron's review. Most of the reviews I've seen so far have been very positive.

Ron's review, well, let's just say that I disagree. I had absolutely no problem with the look of the film, which I believe helped the story in the mood and tone department. I'm one of those who was completely enthralled by the story. The action sequence was my only significant problem with the film. It was overlong and boring, not to mention unbelievable. Thankfully it takes up little time compared to the length of the film. The film contains surprises, and most importantly it made me care about the characters...at times it was even moving. This is Spielberg's best film since Raiders. Though that comes from a person who hasn't been too impressed with Spielberg's output over the last 20 years. I don't see this film doing $300 million, but it should do a lot of business after opening weekend thanks to good word of mouth.

does anyone know if there is possibly streaming video of this somewhere?

I think this has their show streamed, but I can't view it at work so I have no idea if it has their current show.

BTW, this one is looking very good on RT. Very high %s, and the reviews seem to be gushing.

I had problems with this film, and thus don't rate it as high as many of the critics.

I know I shouldn't, but I will spoilerize my misgivings because I don't want to inadvertently spoil the film for others who somehow find their way here before seeing the film.

This drove me nuts:

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Once Tom Cruise's character, John Anderton, sees the precrime of him shooting Leo, why doesn't he find a way to incapacitate himself for the next 36 hours so he can't possibly kill anyone? Would that not prove that he can't be the murderer? He went to the trouble to get new eyes, he was scott free for the most part after that. He just had to lay low for 36 hours. Anyone with half a brain would have realized how to beat the pre-cogs premonitions with inside knowledge. I kept thinking of the the pre-cogs as the geese laying the red eggs. To me it was comical to see the elaborate little plastic spiral-like tunnels for the red balls to roll out.

This is what pissed me off about this film, and what makes the rest of the film seem too predictable and dull.

The futuristic touches of the film are pretty cool, though, and the scene with Hinemen in her greenhouse was sort of entertaining.

One more thing: I'm getting tired of the washed out "cinematic" look of Spielberg films. I don't think it worked as well in MR as it did in A.I.

Okay, one last thing: Did anyone else get 8 or 10 trailers in front of this film when you saw it? I think there was almost 20-25 minutes in trailers alone.
Was it just me or did Tom Cruise have hair in the pre-cogs' vision near the end?

Yep, there was a huge amount of trailer time in this one.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
I would have had the same problem with that, but he never had a minority report. There was no indication that he ever had the free will to change fate. They made his curiosity be the driving force for fate, but it could have been anything. The odd part was that Agatha knew it was his future, but was still trying to convince him otherwise.
