Was the updated version of Revolution in the Head ever released in the U.S.?

I checked the original out of the library a little after the author died and it was great and it's something I want to purchase--but only the updated version.

I flipped when I saw the "Recording Sessions" in paperback for $8 at Borders earlier this summer. It is, hands down, my favorite Beatles book of all time. I have a first edition hardcover that I gingerly refer to from time to time. Now, I have a new soft cover copy that I can keep handy and not worry about.

UK albums have only thus far been available on CD in mono.

Unlike their UK counterparts, the early US albums contained many of the
favourite early Beatles hits, only available on singles at the time in
the UK, and have been in demand on CD for many years.

The box set will be a significant release in the US, following in the
footsteps of 'The First US Visit' DVD, which also celebrated the 40th
Anniversary of The Beatles in the US earlier this year.

Advertising will be taken in key music press including Mojo, Uncut,
Word, Record Collector and national press, with a strong emphasis at
retail level.

Amazon is listing this for a rather hefty 69.98. CD Universe has it for a more reasonable 52.60. I still think I'll wait for a review to see if it's worthwhile.

I was just listening to "Run For your Life" the other day and I had to laugh...and shake my head a bit at the lyrics... I mean, I know this song was written in a joking way, but it still made me take notice... "I'd rather see you dead little girl, than to be with another man.... catch you with another man... that's the end, little girl. You know that I'm a wicked guy..."

I just wonder how this song would be received if released today from say a mainstream pop group?

I suppose the same could be said of other songs such as "Down By the River" (I shot my baby), "Hey Joe" (I'm going down to shoot my old lady...)etc.

But aren't those lyrics kind of innocuous compared to, say, Eminem?

Agreed Marvin. I'm not saying we don't hear them from Eminem, but I guess I was just surprised on first listen to the song.

The first line of that song was taken by John from the line "I'd rather see you dead little girl than see you with another man" which occurred towards the end of Elvis Presley's 1955 Sun single "Baby, Let's Play House". It was originally written in 1954 by a 28-year-old preacher's son from Nashville named Arthur Gunter, who based the song on a 1951 country hit by Eddy Arnold, "I Want To Play House With You", and recorded it for the Excello label in late 1954.

yeah, i listened to "run for your life" the other day as well, and noticed the lyric for the first time, and thought the same thing...

"you can't do that" was another song i was kinda amused by coz of the lyrical content as well

Ok, new question... and I'm sorry if this has been asked already, but everyone talks about how much better the mono tracks sound... if i order from another country, say amazon.com for example, can I get albums with the mono tracks? Not of the box set, cause I know there is mono on there, but the later stuff? Thanks for the help.

No, aside from the first four albums, all the CDs are stereo only AFAIK.

Although seek out the mono LPs, they are quite good! I managed to find a mono first pressing of Sgt. Pepper for $8 last year.

I have LP's of Abbey Road, Revolver, the Blue Greatest Hits and Let It Be, which are all nice and unfortunately stereo pressings.

The only "legal" way to get later Beatles songs in mono is to buy the 2 box sets: Complete Singles Collection and Complete EP Collection.

These both use completely different masters than the CD releases do, and even than each other! Virtually all the songs are in mono except for one bonus EP and the singles from '69.

In the EP collection you get the full EP version of Magical Mystery Tour in stereo and mono from a different master than the one used on the "American" CD currently out.

So, to bring up this thread again, what other Beatles books do you reccomend? I was cleaning windows today for a customer and saw a beautiful hardcover copy of "The Beatles: 10 years that shook the world." On first glance it looked good. Is the content as good as the book looks? I also thought about the Anthology book, though I have the Anthology dvd set, and the cd's, so it might be a bit overkill. It'd be nice to have a coffee table book for my living room. any suggestions?

PS - It looks like you can still get the Beatles hardcover book for $27 and change, with a softcover reprint up for pre order. I may go with that for that price unless other suggestions sway me in another direction. I also see a "leatherbound" copy used for $208. That was definitely the beautiful book I saw in the customer's house. Obviously, I'm not gonna spend that much, but the hardcover will be quite nice.

There is a Borders close to me that is closing down on Jan. 20. I think there are several copies there, and everything is being marked down. I'll check it out. Thanks.

Did anyone see that the Toronto Sun is reporting that the Beatles UK CD back catalogue will be remastered and on sale by June. Read it on SH Forums.

I work for a classic rock radio station here in Tulsa. I've been reading for a little over a week now to expect Sgt. Pepper's to be reissued in June in both stereo and mono. The rest of their music is suppose to follow thanks to Paul & Ringo signing off on allowing Beatles music to be downloaded.

Can't wait to hear that mono mix.

Not only will the Beatles remasters appear later this spring, but Olivia Harrison confirmed that both Traveling Wilbury albums will be released this year as well, following the Wilburys tribute CD Strumming Wilbury's (Jan 30th). George was working on the mastering back in 2001 but never completed them. There will be behind-the-scenes video of the recording sessions (footage of which appeared in the music videos).

Has anybody heard the Smithereens' cover tribute cover Meet The Smithereens yet?

Supposedly Apple Inc and Apple Corp reached a deal and the albums will be available via iTunes. Rumors abound say there will be a commercial during the Super Bowl announcing it. Which of course was mentioned in another thread on here. If this is the case, I hope iTunes gets some special features to make it worth while to buy tracks, otherwise I'll just wait for the cd's.

The Capitol Albums box sets sound amazing, the mono mixes do anyway. They are the most beautiful things I've ever heard, I don't have a record player anymore and I want one again to listen to my Beatles vinyl after hearing these albums. I can't wait for Sgt. Pepper's in mono, ooo I hope and long for a 5.1 DVD-A mix, like "Love", that would nice.

Well, I don't know as much as some on this subject, but I think they were all (early albums anyway if not all) released in mono originally, and I also believe George Martin and the group prefer(ed) them that way. I do believe that some of the stereo remixes just sound a little off to me. Either way, new remasters in stereo or mono would go a long way in making them sound a whole lot better.

Well since "Love" was issued world-wide in DVD-A I wouldn't get any hopes for any releases on SACD...at this point it looks like a Multi-channel release will not happen in the 1st go round of remasters. Maybe later on...maybe never.
