The official BLADE RUNNER SE thread. (Check out page 8 and #790.) - Page 12

The specific "Deckard" discussion has (partly: only the last parts ) been split off to a thread of its own. Please do not discuss that aspect further here. Thanks.

$1.00 theaters...boy who remembers those?

Kevin, totally off topic, start another thread would you?

Man, do I? Corvette Summer, Go Tell the Spartans, Eat my Dust etc. My late 70's and early 80's were spent at the $1 cinema. Just to stay out of trouble and away from the game.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
My memory may be playing tricks on me, but in the international cut on LD I seem to recall Batty referring to Tyrell as "Father" during their climacting meeting. I rewatched the movie the night before seeing the theatrical release of the DC, so at the time the film was still fresh in my memory. I found it irksome that "Father" was changed to "Fucker" in the DC. In my opinion, it really robs the scene of its poignancy.

Jimmy-
I believe the only version in which Batty says "Father" is the workprint; in all others (U.S. thearical, international, DC), he says "F*cker." I agree, though, that "Father" is more poignant.
Thanks Bryan-

Having never seen the workprint, I obviously must have heard "Father" in my head, thinking that it fit the scene more appropriately.

I have to pick up another copy of the DC as I must have sold it a while back when the rumors of the SE first surfaced. I'll most likely also purchase the new DC when it is released.

I was really excited about potentially seeing the workprint- Unfortunately it looks as though that prospect may never come to fruition.

Thanks Again-

Jimmy

"father" was also used in the TV version.
If you turn on the subtitles on the DC DVD, it says "father" as well.

Geez,

This is what I get for not checking in this thread in a while.

A little late to the celebration here but a big to Warner for giving us the 2-disc Interim Edition.

Welcome to the party Jim!

Did no-one read my post? I read years ago an interview with Ridley Scott in Empire magazine that he claimed to have just recorded the commentary track for the DVD... whatever happened to the cut he recorded the commentary for?

Can someone look this up, Scott couldn't have done that many feature interviews for Empire.
John, that would likely be the cut that is all tied up with the legal troubles described earlier in the thread.

This was questioned at the time of the article, and no one ever came out to confirm that the article was accurate. The statement has therefore always been considered dubious.

It's not accurate.

Charlie,

Do you have any information regarding this 2-disc set? Any inside scoop
post #344 of 2829
Warners hasn't told me anything, so no scoops I'm afraid. But let me put it this way: I'm currently on-board to produce about six DVD's between now and Summer '05. Two of those are Ridley Scott titles. Neither of them is "Blade Runner."

That doesn't mean that this so-called "interim edition" can't happen between now and then. It just means that I probably won't have much (if anything) to do with it.

"Blade Runner" is my favorite film of all-time. It obviously pains me greatly that I can't fully immerse myself in creating a definitive special edition DVD for it. But when it comes to "Blade Runner," that's all I'm really interested in doing.

Very interesting comments Charlie.

It is disappointing to hear that you won't be working on this title any time soon. I'm sure I speak for many hear when I say it would have been great to have someone like you working on this title...especially since it is your favorite film of all time!

Thanks for the comments.

It is a bummer that you won't be working on it Charlie. You go back a long way with this project. I wonder who is going to do the transfer or is this whole thing more a rumor than fact? Thanks again Charlie,

So just because you haven't heard anything personally doesn't mean the Bits' report on "a 2-disc set in the first half of '05" is inaccurate, correct? I just don't want another let-down re a new BR DVD.

Charlie

What are the 2 Ridley films you will be working on?

Hope it's Black Rain & White Squall
Charlie, I am mostly upset at the quandary you may be in of having to decide whether to reccomend particular ideas for the menus which you may have been reserving for the ultimate edition. (I say "recommend" because it sounds like you won't be the one doing them).

My advice, if it means anything, is never hold back. Always go with your best idea. If the idea was the EPSER interface, suggest they do the ESPER. Trust that if the ultimate edition is ever granted the right to exist, that at that time you will also come up with an even more brilliant menu, and that you'll be thanking your lucky stars that you allowed what you thought-at-the-time-to-be-your-best-idea to be executed already for the lesser project.

Ditto on that. Though I fear that my memory has somehow combined Black Rain with Rising Sun...what a concept...I bet those could be mashed together...

sort of I guess. Although Rising Sun is a murder mystery set in the US and Black Rain is a mafia type story set mostly in Japan. Apart from the obvious Japanese connection not much else to connect them.
Isn't Rising Sun set in Japan, with Sean Connery and the guy from Blade investigating the murder of an American gaijin at a Japanese office party? Ah well, off topic.
Will_B, the film you are thinking of is indeed Rising Sun but it's set in the United States. In the Michael Crichton novel the events took place in Los Angeles - haven't seen the movie. Black Rain is (mostly) set in Japan.

I would be the first in line to buy a Black Rain SE. If this is one of the two titles currently being worked on, I hope the alternative ending Charlie de Lauzirika once mentioned in an earlier thread can be included as a special feature.
What was that alternate ending?
Yeah, I completely missed out on that.
Ooh two new Ridley SEs to own before Summer 2005! Nice. I'm thinking 1492, most definitely. Am I right, Charlie? Do I win a t-shirt or something?

Is one of these the Gladiator Director's Cut DVD I heard about a while ago?

I'm guessing the other one could be a Thelma and Louise SE?
Could be Duellists.

I hope the other one isn't G.I. Jane. I can't stand that movie.

It can't be Black Hawk Down, with there being 3 editions of this out there.

It can't be Hannibal with the 1 and 2 disc editions out there.

It can't be Legend with the Ultimate Edition out there.

Then again, what the hell do I know?
Charlie's post about existing materials that would be great supplements for a Black Rain SE can be found here.

This thread hasn't been about Blade Runner in a while, sorry to contribute to this. I'll get back to dreaming about unicorns now.

Both have pretty good SEs out.
Oh yeah, forgot about the Thelma and Louise one. Doh!

I've never seen the Duellists on DVD or even in stock at the store. (Ducks and starts running.)
I bought my copy of the Duelists as it came out. It's very nice, with a Ridley commentary and an isolated scoire with commentary, as well as an early Ridley short film. Strange that you never come accross it, but then again I buy mostly online.
