    On the Kurosawa/Mifune Series: What struck me is how accessible and entertaining Kurosawa is. Movies like Seven Samurai and Throne Of Blood are big-screen popcorn movies, as vital and testosterone-laced as any summer blockbuster. There's more going on, sure, but when someone gets a master's reputation, one can forget they got it by being showmen as well as artistes.

Won't see: The list of tripe I won't see is much longer than what is above. Fortunately, I am not a paid critic, so I can skip the obviously bad stuff. I see MOST movies I want to see opening weekend. If not, too bad.

Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone - 8.5/10
The Wicker Man - can understand status, but didn't do a lot for me - 5/10
Serendipity - not bad, but dull and pointless - 4/10
Elizabeth - reminded me very much of The Godfather, not a bad thing per se - 8/10
The Frighteners: Director's Fun Cut - better than the theatrical - 8/10 (Making of...Doc gets a 10/10, and maybe it goes to 11)
The Others - 9/10
Amelie - 8.5/10 (Blind purchase, but not a stupid one - never would have seen this if it weren't for HTF. Wonderful film, very vivid and vibrant!)
The Royal Tenenbaums - 6.5/10 (Just didn't work for me...certainly not a bad film by any stretch, but not to my taste)
Resident Evil - 6/10 (Enjoyable trash )
Re-Animator - 7.5/10 (Didn't necessarily live up to the hype, but was a cool little film nonetheless)
Society - 7/10 (Dated, but wicked, and I thought it was pretty cool - nice hotties, some gross-out stuff, and a sharp tone)
