After a few years, this is what I've come up with. It's not the prettiest, and still needs some work, but I'm proud of it. At 23 years old, money is tight and my location isn't the best for finding good gear (SE Minnesota).
Gear:
Panasonic Viera TC-P42U2 42" TV
Harman Kardon AVR-3600 Receiver
Peavey CS-400 Power Amp
JBL ND310 Front Speakers
JBL E60 Surround Speakers
Energy Pro Series 1.5 Rear Speakers
JBL Northridge N Center Speaker
(2) Polk Audio PSW-505 Subs (wired as passive)
Going to be adding:
Rack mount power amp - 1 space (Get rid of Peavey)
Rack mount EQ - 1 space
Rack mount power conditioner - 1 space
3 space rack

It's a nice setup.
Curious what is the seating distance from sofa to tv
or sweet spot to tv.

Your speakers are bigger than your screen! Most people get gigantic TVs with itty-bitty Bose speakers, but you're just the opposite! :D Very nice sound system!

Thanks man!
Seating distance is right around 10' if you're in the center of the U shape of the couch. It sucks because college rental houses always have awkward rooms and this is about the only way we can set the room up.

Thanks Mark! When I get to a new place, I'm planning on doing the actual 7.2 system - Front speakers on the sides of the TV, surrounds on the sides, then rears in the back. Then I can upgrade my TV to a 60" or something. I've been wanting a bigger TV for awhile now but I just don't have the space for it.
And I know what you're talking about with the little speakers. It makes me cringe when I see a sweet brand new 60" LED TV with a soundbar. Haha.

I figured that would come up. :P
Don't ask me why I did it...I really can't answer. BUT - It looks and sounds awesome so I'm fine with it haha.

Are there speakers in the rear? I can't see any in the picture, any problems with the bigger JBL's sliding around on the subwoofers? I used to use mine as a end table, then the lamp fell off lol:)

No speakers in the rear. The way the living room is set up, I just kept them all up front. Eventually I'll get it set up in the traditional 7.2 set up. No problems at all with the JBLs sliding around on the subs actually. They're heavy enough, and have really grippy feet so it works out quite well.
