Burbank, CA, March 20, 2012 – Join precocious nine-year-old Oskar Shell on a powerful emotional journey of discovery and grief when “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” arrives onto Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and Digital Download on March 27 from Warner Home Entertainment Group. Nominated for an Academy Award® for Best Picture, “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” is not a story about September 11, 2001, but about every day after.
Three-time Academy Award® nominee Stephen Daldry (“Billy Elliot,” “The Reader,” “The Hours”) directed “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” from a screenplay written by Academy Award® winner Eric Roth (“Forrest Gump,” “The Insider”), and based on acclaimed best-selling novel from author Jonathan Safran Foer.
The film stars Academy Award® winners Tom Hanks (“Forrest Gump,” “Philadelphia”) and Sandra Bullock (“The Blind Side”) along with newcomer Thomas Horn in the role of Oskar, and was produced by Scott Rudin (“No Country for Old Men,” “The Social Network,” “True Grit”).
Academy Award® nominee Max von Sydow (“Shutter Island,” “Pelle the Conqueror”) was nominated for his second Academy Award® for his moving silent performance as The Renter. The film also stars Academy Award® nominee Viola Davis (“Doubt,” “The Help”), John Goodman, Jeffrey Wright and Zoe Caldwell.
The Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD include an UltraViolet Digital Copy of the standard definition theatrical version of the film, which allows consumers to download the film to a PC or Mac plus instantly stream it from a digital cloud to many computers, tablets or smartphones.
“Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” will be available on Blu-ray Combo Pack, featuring a hi-definition, a standard definition and a digital copy of the film, for $35.99 and on single disc DVD for $28.98.
SYNOPSIS
Adapted from the acclaimed bestseller by Jonathan Safran Foer, “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” is a story that unfolds from inside the young mind of Oskar Schell, an inventive eleven year-old New Yorker whose discovery of a key in his deceased father’s belongings sets him off on an urgent search across the city for the lock it will open. A year after his father died in the World Trade Center on what Oskar calls “The Worst Day,” he is determined to keep his vital connection to the man who playfully cajoled him into confronting his wildest fears.
Now, as Oskar crosses the five New York boroughs in quest of the missing lock - encountering an eclectic assortment of people who are each survivors in their own way - he begins to uncover unseen links to the father he misses, to the mother who seems so far away from him and to the whole noisy, dangerous, discombobulating world around him.
