Velodyne EQ MAX 15 vs HSU VTF-15

hello all, I'm new on this forum site, I was looking forward to buying the HSU VTF-15,Since last few weeks ago when i heard the new Velodyne EQ MAX 15 at the local Theatre store and sounded amazing and for a great price, I'm trying to find reviews on the EQ MAX online and not much out there may be its to new ?, just wondering if any one owns one or knows any think about them ? and compare it to HSU VTF-15. Subwoofer will be for my living room area which is very open i have the dinning room,kitchen,nook,hall way all together,total area is approx 16ft X 35ft, Eventually in the future i would like to get 2 15" to fill up the whole area. any feedback will be appreciated,Thanks

Velodyne has an auto EQ function. The Hsu will play lower in the 16hz tuning mode. Which is more important to you?

Thanks Robert J, for getting back to me, Ive seen and read lots of ur reviews on this fourm,I would have to say we watch about 90% movies and 10% music, , So which one would u say would be a better subwoofer for my needs? thanks

You can add a manual EQ to the Hsu if it is needed for about $100. I run a Behringer Feedback Destroyer as my 12 band, digital, parametric subwoofer EQ and it works great.

With 90% movies, I'd go with the extension on the Hsu especially if you like action movies. With proper placement you may never need any additional EQ.

The total area is larger than my room and I run dual 15's. But you are correct that only one 15 is really needed. But two is really nice.

My subs are similar to this except I use a 2,500w pro amp to power them - http://www.danmarx.org/audioinnovation/tc3000.html

A sub is pretty easy. It's just basic carpentry skills to build a box. I've gone a step further and decided to build my own subs. This is my first try - http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y78/rlj5242/Custom%20Sub%201/?albumview=slideshow . I have parts to build four 12's and four 15's right now. I just need the time.

I always give DIY as an example because for the price of the Hsu sub, you can build something that is better. At that price, you can probably build 2. On the other hand, DIY isn't for everyone. Some people don't have the tools or the capability. It's not a knock against anyone either. I've known some extremely smart people who just aren't handy with tools.

I've built my own subs in the past as well, with excellent results. I had planned on a DIY for my next sub, but ended up with the Empire because the sub I was going to build (Rythmik dual 12" servo open baffle) actually cost a little more than the Empire. I may still end up doing the Rythmik this year though.
