EXODUS (Bluray)

Many of us were disappointed to see Amazon.Fr. selling Exodus on Bluray while in the U.S. we are stuck with a horrible letterbox (4 x 3 ) DVD version. To make matters worse the French Bluray is region B with burned in subtitles(cannot be turned off) . Good news MGM HD (channel 562 DirecTV) is broadcasting Exodus today 6:15PM in 1080i HD. Hopefully, MGM or whoever is their distributor will release a region A Bluray.

Until then we can record the 1080i to a 480i DVD. Using my Pioneer hard drive recorder I will dub the recording onto 2 DVD's. That will have to do for now and like Raintree County it will be the best version until a Bluray release.

Let us know if they have the intermission in the broadcast.  Thanks.

Thanks to this forum and the kind help of David Com and Robert George, I was able to overcome the annoying forced subs, albeit in a roundabout way. I ordered a software upgrade disc from Oppo, carefully installed it on my 83, and was then able to hold down the subtitle button and use the bottom arrow on the remote to take the subs off the picture vertically, but not all the way. I then built a black construction paper mask that I taped together and cut to fit just below the picture, scotch taped it to the front of the TV and, thus, obliterated the remaining subs. Whew! I have never gone through more to watch a film on my TV ever before! I think the French do this stuff on purpose, perhaps to get back at us for the "freedom fries" thing.

There was an Intermission card, but no music or break, just the blue card in the style of the main titles and then on to part 2.

Well that's kind of defeating the purpose.  smile.gif

I only saw a bit of the broadcast and will watch more later, but I think it's from the same source as the French blu-ray.

After recording the 3 hour 28 minute movie in SP on a Panasonic Hard Drive recorder I divided Exodus at the end of the intermission. At the 1 hour 58 minute mark there are 2 - 3 minutes of commercials which I deleted. I then dubbed Exodus onto 2 DVD-R's to preserve the SP quality. I have not watched the recordings but from what I saw during editing the picture looked really good. It would be nice if MGM releases Exodus on a 2 disc Bluray.

I am watching the recording of Exodus from MGM HD and it looks very good for DVD-R at SP speed recording. One can only hope later this year MGM will release Exodus on Bluray. Until then I will enjoy this version which is 100 times better than the old region 1 DVD.
