During the late 1970s and into the mid 1980s, New York's East Village, with its cheap rent, offered a haven for cutting edge artists, filmmakers, musicians and performers.

Debbie HarryPacked with interviews with some of the most notable figures to emerge from the underground music, art and film scene in New York at that time (including, among others, Jim Jarmusch, Debbie Harry, Steve Buscemi and Lydia Lunch), Blank City tells the story of that remarkable time and place where these artists lived, worked, and experimented in bold new art across different media.

Tracing the underground scene from its origins with the New American Cinema ofBlank City still 2filmmakers like Jack Smith and Jonas Mekas in the early 1960s, through the "No Wave Cinema" and the "Cinema of Trangession" movements, Blank City shows how the music, film and art informed each other's work.
