Is there much to do with a new laptop to get it ready to use? Do you need to know a lot about computers to do it? Office Max told me it would cost between $60 and $100 for them to do it. They have one on sale I'm interested in, but I'm not paying them that much. Thanks.
Can you provide more definition on what "ready to go" means to you? I can't even begin to imagine what Office Max thinks that means - is it loading OS and other wares? Save the money, take your time and do it yourself if there is anything to actually even do. In the long run you will feel more educated about your new machine and confident if a problem ever should arise...

They said certain programs would need to be added, and some things deleted. I know next to nothing about computers. We had a "computer guy" that took care of us, but that's no longer available.
All you do is unpack it and turn it on - it's already ready to go. The only programs you need to add are the programs you intend to use (ie: Photoshop, etc).
New PCs do come with a lot of crap installed - trialware and the like. Grab the free utility PC Decrapifier (http://pcdecrapifier.com/). It scans your new PC and recommends stuff to remove and will uninstall it for you
