Cover art looks like a bootleg. A crap bootleg. I'll be passing on this. the 4 film DVD set I got for $10 is good enough for me. They just don't hold up for me as well as I thought they would.

$79.98??? I just bought the same set from Amazon UK a couple of weeks ago for $30. It's been out there for nearly a year or so.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lethal-Weapon-Blu-ray-Region-Free/dp/B003V1YHFE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1329261223&sr=8-2

No need to wait until May and pay more.

Only the first two for me, thanks. Wasn't there a video for George Harrison's "Cheer Down", which played over the end credits of LW2? Why isn't that here?

At $30 or so from the UK it's a good buy, collecting the theatrical cuts, which I prefer.

Unless this includes BOTH the theatrical & extended cuts of the first 3 films (WHICH IT F*@#ING SHOULD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)  I'll be passing as I already have the UK set.

The first 2 are action movie classics and the only ones I watch on a regular basis.  3 & 4 are a bit painful to watch these days.

Not a lot of details in that print ad (is that considered a "press release"?), but let's hope the extras from the DVDs carry over. There were quite a few deleted scenes. This was a fun movie series for the 10 years or so that it was out there. It really nailed the buddy movie genre.

Why are they using the same box art as the UK set? It only serves to remind people that there's no need to buy this because there's already a very nice all-region import that's a lot cheaper. I've had a copy for over a year and I'm very happy with it. Thanks Warner (UK)!

Judging from that ad, it's the exact same set that came out in the UK. The extras are the same, as is the packaging.

It's worth getting for the newer transfers and DTS-HD Master Audio (I believe the original BD versions of the first two films were 1080i converts with lossy audio). There are deleted scenes, but they are in SD. The documentaries add up to about 2 hours and are 1080i.

“A vivid, visceral reminder of just how exciting an action film can be.”

LETHAL WEAPON COLLECTION

Billion Dollar Franchise’s New 5-Disc Blu-ray Collection

of all Four Films, Documentaries and Music Videos

DEBUTS ON BLU-RAY™ JUNE 12 FROM WHV FOR FATHER’S DAY

Burbank, Calif. February 23, 2012 – It’s been 25 years since the action buddy film, Lethal Weapon, became a phenomenon in its genre and spawned a legacy of films on the heels of its success.  Now Warner Home Video (WHV) will debut the ultimate Lethal Weapon Collection as a 5-Disc giftset containing all four original theatrical releases in the series (Lethal Weapon, Lethal Weapon 2, Lethal Weapon 3 and Lethal Weapon 4).  The franchise, directed by Richard Donner (Superman, Goonies) and starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover as L.A. detectives Riggs and Murtaugh, is one of the most successful in film franchise history, with a worldwide box-office gross and home entertainment sales totaling more than $1 billion.[1]

The Lethal Weapon Collection – a perfect Father’s Day gift --  includes four featurettes (released for the first time in the US) about the genesis, legacy and making of each film in the franchise. Also included are deleted scenes, outtakes and two music videos; one starring Sting and Eric Clapton. Lastly, also included are 2010 cast interviews with Mel Gibson, Danny Glover, Rene Russo, Joe Pesci and Donner. With two hours of explosive content, it’s sure to be a firecracker of a set.

The five-disc collection will be available for $79.98 SRP. Orders are due May 8.

About The Films

Lethal Weapon (1987)

Forced to form an uneasy alliance, two L.A. cops – Veteran cop Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover) and Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) his new young partner who doesn’t care if he sees another birthday - begin to unravel the mystery of an apparent suicide that turns out to be murder and more.

·   Special Features Disc 1

o        Commentary by Richard Donner New to the US!

o        Deleted Scenes

o        Honeymoon Suite Lethal Weapon Music Video

o        Theatrical Trailer

Lethal Weapon 2 (1989)

Riggs wows the pretties of a hotel spa before getting to Leo Getz (Joe Pesci). Murtaugh receives bad bodywork news from an auto repairman after his beleaguered station wagon sees some Riggs-piloted street action. Plus, feisty Leo shares a newly included scene in which he recalls a suspect's address by complex spins of numbers that, well, no one can tell it like Leo. And no one would follow his lead but Riggs and Murtaugh. It's police procedure, Lethal style. And it's yours to enjoy as the duo draws a bead on criminals hiding behind diplomatic immunity.

·   Special Features Disc 2

o        Commentary by Richard Donner New to the US!

o        Stunts & Action (1989 Cinemax Special)

o        Deleted Scenes

o        Theatrical Trailer

Lethal Weapon 3 (1992)

Riggs and Murtaugh are back again. This time, they must stop a former cop who has become an arms dealer to L.A. street gangs.

Lethal Weapon 4 (1998)

Mel Gibson and Danny Glover return, with Pesci again riding comedy shotgun as chatterbox Leo. Murtaugh is still the family man. Riggs is still the gonzo loose cannon and - what's this? - family man. His ‘will-he/won't he’ marriage to Cole (Rene Russo) is one of the new wrinkles in this powerhouse crowd-pleaser that also stars comedy favorite Chris Rock and international action star Jet Li. This sequel involves an action packed battle with a Chinese ganglord.

·   Special Features Disc 4

o        Commentary by Richard Donner, J. Mills Goodloe and Geoff Johns

o        HBO First Look Special: Pure Lethal! New Angles, New Scenes and Explosive Outtakes

Ha, identical to the UK set, which could have been bought anytime last year for nearly half the price that Amazon US are selling this release for. It's a great looking set with tons of extras.
Thanks Ron (and WHV I am guessing) for the update on the features of the US release.

While tempted for the UK release way back when - kinda glad now that I held out for this one.

The commentaries by Mr. Donner and bonus disc 5 make it a must pre-order.

Hey, if you folks wanna spend nearly double on an identical US set, knock yourselves out. But if you've got an amazon.com account then that's half the battle right there. You should be able to log in at the UK site using your existing account details, and I'm sure y'all can work out the rest.

Another example: Right now, Fox's Alien Anthology retails for £14.99 (a measly $24 bucks) plus shipping. Compare that to the monstrous $68 price of the US equivalent! As with the Lethal set, these aren't just all-region versions, they ARE the US discs.

Anyone know if it is the same transfers/identical discs as the UK ones?

Yep, these days it's world marketplace, I've ordered discs (via Amazon) from America, France & Germany, all just a mouse click away. Just think, years ago if you wanted something that was on sale in another country, you had to go there or know someone who did.

Are the UK Discs in PAL format (with associated speed-up)?

1080p video is a standard independent of the PAL/NTSC video standard for standard definition. PAL speedup is not an issue on 1080p transfers in the UK or anywhere else. Now, that isn't to say that all UK Blu discs will play ALL of their content on US players. There is often still 576i PAL video on those discs as bonus features, and usually those won't play on US Blu players, and neither will 1080i 50hz material.
The big studios seem to have gone over to making the one disc that will play all over the world, which makes sense & must be cheaper, & HD is a worldwide standard.
Oh boy, here we go again.
For crying out loud can I can get an individual release for the first film only? Its the only one I like. This 'bundle' only option is driving me crazy.

Wait a few months and it will be cheap as dirt I suspect, the market is pretty flooded with Lethal Weapon as is, I doubt this is in too high demand. The blessing of Blu cases is they are rarely much bigger then a standard DVD, even in multi-film sets.

I always wait these days, I didn't on Cleopatra, & what happened? It was almost half the price I paid a mere three weeks later.

Thanks,

Although I though the PAL Speedup issues had to with the FPS variance between NTSC and PAL. So for HD the FPS is standard all over the world?

So I guess my other question is if anyone knows if all content from the UK discs will play in the US. I use a PS3 and I know it will not play PAL format?
In the pre-1080p era, films were transferred at 24 fps in NTSC and 25 fps in PAL. Films transferred at progressive scan in 1080 can be played back correctly in Europe or U.S. Your second question was answered by Chuck's post. Stuff in 1080i 50hz or PAL video may or may not play back depending on your player and monitor/projector. It sounds like your PS3 will not play some of the bonus features with some films.

I realize that, but for this specific LW set from the UK, will all the bonus features play on US players?

Yes. They are the exact same discs that will be released here.
