LOS ANGELES February 12, 2012 (AP)--Whitney Houston, who reigned as pop music's queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use, erratic behavior and a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown, has died. She was 48.

Publicist Kristen Foster said Saturday that the singer had died, but the cause and the location of her death were unknown.

Whitney Houston - Dead at 48

Another talented person felled by an inability to control personal demons.

What a waste of great talent and beauty.  A very sad day for me.

Very sad she couldn't overcome her demons.   She leaves behind kids with a serial-abuser and fellow drug user, Bobby Brown.   *shrug*   She had such great talent, but wow did she fund a whole lot of incredibly terrible people through her crazed drug use.

Very weird. I was in the supermarket a couple of hours ago and at the checkout line looking at the celeb magazines and happened to focus on the cover of one of them showing Whitney apparently on another bender.

Sad story. At this point I have to assume it was a drug related.

I didn't realize that tonight was the eve of the Grammys. I wonder how many people were called back into the offices over this.

You know who's really sad right now? Patrick Bateman.

But he was listening to the new Robert Palmer tape.

Just so sad to hear the news, as I heard it on the radio and could not believe it. And at a such a young age. frown.gif

I can remember when she appeared on Silver Spoons, which is probably how I first knew about her. And I get reminded of that show whenever I hear her song, "Saving All My Love For You".

Also, I remember her song "Greatest Love of All" being a popular song to sing in schools, and it used to drive me nuts when my sister had to practice singing it.

There's nothing worse than dying, though I guess having Nikki Finke reporting your death comes pretty close.

She once asked Barbara Walters, "If I bought crack, where are the receipts? Show me the receipts!!"

Receipts for crack? She was destined to drown in the bathtub.

Anybody see the weirdly-random "tribute" SNL did last night? It was pretty deep into the show, almost 12:30, and after a piece, they just flashed a still-photo of Whitney in a "Mary Katherine" sketch with Molly Shannon. No caption, no explanation, didn't even show a clip, just this photo up for a few seconds, then a fade to commercial. Seemed oddly half-assed.

Still...they gotta blame someone for this, although Bobby B. seems the easy scapegoat.

Is Conrad Murray still on the street?

I must say I got emotional after watching this, showing what she was at the peak of her talent and beauty. Such a tragedy that she lost it all.

Major diva with a fantastic voice, of course that was 20+ years ago.

She may have had her demons, but Bobby Brown was her enabler, and he ruined her life. Quite sure he'll come out with a hefty death benefit once things calm down. Maybe he'll OD on something himself and rid the world of the trash he is.

She dies and I bet he couldn't care less. His bank account is now probably healthier than ever.

She looked like she had wonderful caring relatives. Did they ever step in and try to save her? I suppose if they did and she agreed to treatment or rehab, good ole Bobby convinced her otherwise.

Sad, very sad.

A very dark weekend, indeed. Very sad to see her go so young so soon--even with all she went through with the substance abuse and the erratic behavior. Still this is a very tough, hard loss.

R.I.P., Miss Whitney.
