Which VGA cable to connect my PC to my Samsung Plasma?

Hello!

I have a new PN51D8000 from Samsung and I'd like to connect it to my PC. As I understand there are different VGA cables (VGA, SVGA et.c) and they all represent different resolutions.

Which cable type would allow me to use the maximum resolution that my TV allows? Wouldn't it be HDMI instead of VGA? But can I connect my PC to my TV via and VGA to HDMI cable? Is that even going to work or am I over thinking this?

Assuming your PC has an HDMI output, then connect to the Samsung using HDMI.

Make sure your PC is outputting 1080p (1920x1080) and that your Samsung is set to Full Mode AND THIS IS IMPORTANT, you also want to ensure your Samsung is set to Just Scan.

Either VGA or HDMI should work fine. Just a good quality VGA cable will handle 1920x1080 res and beyond, as will HDMI.

The issue is not with the VGA cable. IT can handle plenty of resolutions. Some TVs limit the resolution on VGA to stuff well less than 1920x1080. Doesn't matter if the cable can handle the signal ... the TV will spit it back and show nothing.

Thanks a lot! I ordered a DVI to VGA cable from Monoprirce since my graphics card has a DVI connection.

Monoprice cable works excellent! I love it. I also combined my Optical cable with the DVI - HDMI cable via my Receiver settings so now I can hear and see.

One downside is that the picture doesn't fill the screen. I tried every screen option and the one that fills the best is "fit to screen" but even then, I get big black side bars. I guess I can't fill the screen, but it is HD resolution which is great!
