Front/rear/center in wall and in ceiling speakers

Hello everybody this is my first post on this forum and have a multitude of questions.smile.gif Thanks in advance for any help or ideas. I am putting together a home theater system in my basement. I would like to put my side and center speakers in the wall or ceiling. The room is W12' x D13' xH8' It is a 3 sided room and then open to the rest of the basement. I will be putting in a 60" or 70" led tv centered on the 12' wall were should i install the left and right front and back speakers? In the ceiling,wall,level with tv,above the tv, level with the coaches, to the farthest edges of the room, i am really clueless on the best location for these speakers? question # 2 how to choose the speakers? The price range is crazy from $20 to over $1000 a piece. I cant see myself spending more then $100 a speaker but can i get any kind of quality for this price? What brands and styles should i be looking at? Choosing the location is the most important right now because the basement is being finished and i need to run the wire for the speakers. Also what type of wire should i use for these? The farthest speaker will be about 15' from the receiver(if distance makes a difference) all the electronics will be in a closet behind the room. Sorry for the long post thanks for any help or thoughts.

Usually, people use in wall or in ceiling speakers because the wife doesn't want the big ugly speakers in the room. But, that shouldn't be the problem, with your's being in the basement? Since my wife doesn't mind the big ugly speakers of our system, I've not had that problem. I have heard in wall and in ceiling speakers, and didn't like them personally. They don't sound natural to me. Especially the center speaker. It should sound like it's coming from the tv, but I've not heard any that did. They sounded like they were coming from exactly where they were. So, I'm against those type speakers. If you must have those kind, maybe someone with experience with them can help you. I'm sure you can find some in that price range, but don't know how good they'll be.

I agree ith Ed. In-walls are a compromise at best and in-ceilings should only be used as surrounds, and even then as a last resort. Here's some sites that offer them at reasonable prices (and some un-reasonable) but center speakers seem to be in short supply. But you could mount a two-way side-ways I suppose. And there is a difference between in-wall (traditional two-way) and in-ceiling (coaxial) speakers. Don't use in-ceilings as in-walls.

I wound up going with the Polk Audio in-walls and in-ceiling, specifically the vanishing series. Ive had great success with polk audio speakers in the past. Speakercraft was my next choice.

You can pick them up really cheap on Amazon. For the money, they cant be beat. I went with the 255 center and the 265RT fronts, with the 70rt for back and surround.

Given you length you could get away with 12 gauge but go with 14 gauge. Youll want the larger cable if you install banana plugs, plus its not much difference fro something you will only do once.

12 gauge is the larger wire.......... in wire gauge, the smaller the number, the larger the wire.

I'm also not understanding what banana plugs have to do with wire AWG either confused.gif

Also, you also want to use "in-wall" rated speaker wire. It should state "CL2" for in-wall rated. Don't go with exotic speaker wire. Check out places like Monoprice online where you can get a spool for a reasonable price.
