Help with surround sound purchase

Hi everyone, I am new to the HT forum. I am in the process of doing my basement over and looking for a HT surround sound. The media room is about 24'W x 12'D with the ceiling at 6'-10". I will be purchasing the Sharp 80" and would like to get a decent surround sound system to compliment the TV. Primary use will be cable content. Also will be hooking up an Xbox, Apple TV and PC. I do not have a Blu-ray player however In the future I may think about one.

My initial surround sound system is as follows:
-Onky TX-NR609, 7.1
-Polk TL250 5-pack (front, center, rear)
-Polk TL250 satellite (sides)

I still need to think about a Sub. Any recommendations? I’m not looking to spend a fortune on a sub however something that will compliment the system. Also, any comments on my initial HT thoughts?

Those Polk TL's are very popular. I've never heard them myself but they seem to be turning up a lot around here. Or something from Definitive Technology ($$$).

The 609 is a real good receiver. Has the Marvell Qdeo video processor but also has the 2EQ version of Audyssey room correction. The Denon 1612/1712/1912 has the MultEQ version which is better. Also consider the Pioneer 1021, Yamaha 571 and H/K 2650. Polk subs in your price range are not the best value. Look at these:

Partsexpress.com and Monoprice.com are great places to buy cables and wires. Good products at super prices without the name brand mark-up.

Thanks for the input. I was looking into the Denon 1912 originally. To be honest the only reason I looked past it was becuase it appears like it is not THX Certified. Does this even matter? I was on the THX website and it seems like thats all they care about. I really like the Denon and Onkyo receivers as they have AirPlay as well as iPhone and iPad applications.

The Energy speakers do not look to be wall mountable. I liked the Polk TL's as all the speakers were eaisly wall mountable. Can the energy speakers be wall mounted?

Figured I would ask since I have several laying around the house. I have 10" and 12" subs as well as amplifiers to power them. Would it be to much base to use car subs?

THX certification really doesn't matter. To them maybe, but not to us. Some manufactures go to the trouble and expense) to get some of their receivers certified and others don't. The 1912 is a fine receiver but keep in mind it doesn't do video conversion from analog to digital. I only mention it because last years 1911 did.

I always thought Pioneer was the leader in Apple Apps but that's not my thing.

I'm pretty sure Energy speakers are wall mountable. I know the RC's have the 1/4" threaded wall mount insert (the standard for wall mounts). Besides give me a big enough hammer and I can't mount anything smile.gif .

I've read from those who's opinion I trust that car subs can work very well in the home. But it is a different environment than a cars interior so that has to be kept in mind. But apparently a subwoor is a subwoofer.
