Good to high end 46-50" TV recommendations?

When I go big, I go DLP. I love my Mitsubishis for the price/real esate.

However, I need a TV for another room with about 9-10' viewing distance which says 46-50" or so.

I don't want a TV that does much more than turns on and has an awesome panel for viewing the sources I send to it. It doesn't seem anyone makes that anymore.

Does anyone have any non-samsung recommendations? I hate Samsung and won't give them my money, but other than that I'm willing to look at anything.

What's your budget? Do you care if it's LCD, LED, or plasma? If plasma, I would go with a Panasonic.

I don't really have a budget, just common sense. I mean I'm not going to spend $50,000 on a 46" TV. I just want a good display for the money I spend that won't have to be replaced in <5 years.

i did some looking on the Panasonic's and there is a rather troubling one star review on Amazon that goes into intimate detail about a flickering issue. He goes on for quite a while talking about firmware updates, replacement A boards, the works. Is that cleared up then?

You're concerned about "one" bad review on Amazon? Good luck finding a TV that doesn't get ANY bad reviews. I know nothing about the flickering issue. If concerned, you should post at Avsforum

It's not just one, there are multiple highly detailed reviews that go into issues with the TV with multiple follow ups of repair attempts, firmware updates, the works. So yeah, I thought I'd ask.

I'm by no means an authority on the subject, but after all the research that I have done the LG LCD's are awefully tough to beat in the size range that you are asking about. Amonst the 46-47" LCD's, LG has got a good picture and a pretty good track record for reliability. Vizion seems to make some good overall sets as well. Two others that started out slow in the flat panel market, but have come on strong recently are Sony and JVC. I will say that Sony's LCD's have a pretty narrow viewing angle, so watch that. JVC makes good basic tv's. The only other one I would have recommended would have been Samsung, but you puth the kibosh to that. They seem to make a good performer, but not as reliable as the ones listed above. Panasonic seems to rule the plasma market from every aspect.
Best,
Adam.
