The Grey - quick review

Liam Neeson headlines this film of survival after a plane originating from Alaska crash-lands in the cold wilderness, and a group of men find themselves basically outnumbered by wolves. The marketing of the film is a little aggressive with the action content, of which there isn't that much, as it focuses more on personalities of the survivors and their in-fighting, but somewhat comes together to stay alive as the pack of wolves stalk them through the snowy countryside with no civilization in sight.

I thought it was okay, but felt a little cheated by the conclusion.

I give it 2.75 stars, or a grade of B-.

It was intense and the performances are superb. I wished for a happy ending but was satisfied with the conclusion. I think fans of Neeson and Frank Grillo will love it. Grillo is a comer. He is like Viggo Mortensen -- he's a great character actor with a lot of small roles in recent films. He just needs that one big break.

Really enjoyed the movie and I thought the ending fit the movie very well. I understand why the mainstream would be disappointed but....
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
You're not getting away from those wolves out there.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the movie but I can understand how people might be dissapointed with the ending too. However, I think the blame for it should be placed much more on the advertising than the movie. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
When shots of Liam Neeson getting ready to brawl with the wolves are a selling point in the commercials, it's fair that folks expect to see the showdown. Suddenly pulling the plug when you're at the point where the cool stuff from the advertising is shown is bound to dissapoint people. If people weren't expecting to see him using broken bottles to fight a wolf, I think the you-don't-get-to-see-him-die ending would have created a feeling of "Oh man, that's messed up" and been much better recieved.

Personally, I found it fittingly dark for the movie and seeing Neeson get eaten really wouldn't add to the movie but I can understand how someone would be let down.

Saw this yesterday and thought it was interesting - certainly a more contemplative take on the action/survival flick.

Kinda weird to see a movie whose ending literally shows up in the trailer!

Reminds me of the trailer for "The Perfect Storm" that showed the boat getting hit by the huge monster wave...
