I didn't see another thread about this game. After putting it on the back burner for some months(thanks Skyrim) I finally started playing this again. Being a non-sequel of the PS3 only game 'Demon Souls' From Software have crafted one of the greatest fantasy games I have ever played. The atmosphere, and surroundings are beautiful, ominous, and just plain jaw dropping at times. There is a sense of danger around nearly every corner, and you will die a lot. But that is one of the things that make the game perfect.

For the first time in many years I am playing a game where I respect the level design to a point of fearful caution. After gaining a few thousand souls I simply cannot afford to die. There is no save point in sight, and I'll be dammed If I want to back track 10 minutes to get to the last one. No, I will press on in uncharted territory in the midst of many monsters, dragons, and the undead...and I'm not going to die and lose everything I worked so hard for. Not many games of today have such dire consequences if you lose your life.

From Software have been around for a long time. I remember getting the first King's Field game for the PS1 in 1995. Although it certainly didn't have many fans, I loved the game and embraced its slower style exploration, and mood inducing levels. I'd take it over a fast paced action game anyday.
King's Field: The Ancient City for the PS2 was the pinnacle of fantasy games for me. That is until I played Dark Souls. The 'Souls' games are said to be the spiritual successor of King's Field, and I get that. They feel similar, yet completely different.
I can't recommend this game enough. Fantasy loving gamers on this forum, if you want a challenging, simply amazing gaming experience give Dark Souls a shot.
