A few words about...™ Rebecca -- in Blu-ray

It's always nice to see an AMPAS Best Picture arrive on Blu-ray, and Alfred Hitchcock's Selznick produced 1940 Rebecca is an especially welcome example.

The film also won for Best Black & White cinematography, and I'm pleased to report that the look and textures of the original have been captured and reproduced nicely in this MGM release.

Rich blacks, and a decent grayscale, which I might have like to see just a bit more open, but overall a very nice transfer, which appears to have been taken from a fine grain master.  With the exception of some damage to the main title sequence, overall the Blu-ray looks terrific.

One of the great films, and a nice addition to the work of Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray.

Also included is a nice selection of extras.  A quality package at a very low price.

Highly Recommended.

Thank you for the review, Mr. Harris.

I had the pleasure of viewing this blu-ray this past weekend and was quite pleased.

I'm hoping MGM (and Fox) have some more classics planned for blu-ray.

Played my copy on my Samsung 56" DLP 1080P rear projector screen last night and was thrilled to see how well-treated this Hitchcock-Selznick gem was. Even more recommendable considering that this, along with "Spellbound" and "Notorious" only cost $9.99 apiece at my local Costco!!!smiley_jawdrop.gif

Watched this for the very first time this weekend and on blu-ray. I thought it was beautiful and a great movie.

I agree, and Joan Fontaine's performance in this film is what made me fall in love with her. smile.gif I was also lucky enough to score this Blu-ray (along with Spellbound and Notorious) at Costco for $9.99.

Not at all difficult.

Fortunately, both she and her sister, Olivia de Havilland, are still with us, aged 94 and 95.  I wish them both good health.

Re Joan and Olivia ...
If only they'd start talking to each other!
