Rebuilding my Snell JIII and need a D26TG-05 Tweet

Hello All
I'm rebuilding my old snell JIII speakers. I had them in storage for awhile because the foam on the speakers dry rotted, ya I know frown.gif. So I just got around to refoaming them this weekend and got them hooked back up and noticed one of my tweeters was bad, not playing at all. I can't find the match for these tweeters anywhere. I really don't want to get into messing around with the Xovers unless I have to. So I really need to find a match, I'll buy two if I can.
They are Vifa D26TG-05, 6 ohm . I searched and googled them for hours yesterday and came up empty handed, I just refuse to believe there not any left in this world for sale new or used.

Somebody please help me out here.rolleyes.gif

Love and Light all

I rebuilt some KII a few years back by simply calling Snell directly and they sold me the woofers I needed.

Ya I actually called them about my woofers awhile back and they wanted $150.00 a pc for them. So I just stored them for a couple years and decided to re-foam them just recently for $25 for both. They sound great too, except the tweet problem.

Thanks for the reply and I'll call them tomorrow to see if they carry them still, worth a try.

Have you tried using the "bad" tweeter in the other speaker? What if the tweeter is OK and the crossover is bad?

No I haven't tried using the bad tweeter in the other speaker but I did while I was playing a disc turned the balance over to the bad speaker and take my leads from the bad speaker and made contact to the tweeter and nothing came from it (the tweeter) only the xover music from my woofer if that makes sense.biggrin.gif Can I do it that way?
I would hate to de-tin (disconnect) the two tweeters just to check the bad one.

Thanks in advance

Update: I just called them at Snell, well it's not Snell anymore Snell went out of buisness I guess. They do have the D26TG-05 tweeters there BUT they are $95.00 A PC. WOWser man I expected half that maybe but thats outa the ball park.

$50 to refoam and $95 for the tweeter, $145 for a pair of Snell JII not bad. Get the tweeter so you don't change the sound by trying something else than the real thing. Even $245 ea w/ new woofer and tweeters is not bad for that speaker.

UPDATE:
I found a D26TG-05 Tweeter on e-bay for $44.74 brand new w/shipping and handling. That was $25 to refoam BOTH woofer speakers Casey and so now $44.74+$25.00= $69.74 total to refurbish my JIII Snell speakers. Not bad huh.
I think I spent $1000.00 for the pair back in the day maybe 1992 or 93 I'm not really sure when I know it's been awhile though. Now I have some decent tunes.biggrin.gif

Well thanks for the reply's casey and robert
