Bluray upgrade advice, please.

I currently have a Sony BDP-S570, which I have had for a little over a year. I use the player as my source for CD audio, and Pandora music streaming, as well as watching Bluray/DVD. I have also connected a portable hard drive to the front USB port, which gives me access to the music I have ripped from CD to the drive.

I am interested in upgrading to a higher quality player, if the improvements in audio and/or video quality will be significant. The players that I am currently considering are the Oppo 93 and the Pioneer Elite BDP-53.

I would be interested in hearing your thoughts and relevant experiences. Thanks in advance!

Even though I own two Pioneer Elite BluRay players (a BDP-05 and a BDP-23) I'd go with the OPPO. Not because the audio or video quality is significantly better but because they are generally easier to setup and operate than most other players and their customer service is 10 times better. I've also owned the OPPO 83 and 83-se. If you connect with HDMI then your receiver is doing the decoding so sound quality won't be that much different, if different at all, regardless of what player you get. If you use the analog connection then you need to get the OPPO 95 ($$$) for the difference to be "significant". And both use Marvell's Qdeo video processor so that should be a wash. In all reality, Sony makes pretty good Bluray players so I'm not sure if it's worth the money to get something else unless there's a feature on another player you want. But maybe someone who's actually owned the 570 and upgraded to an Elite or OPPO should be saying that blush.gif .

Of the BR players I've owned over the years (about 7-8) they all produced a great picture, both HD and SD, but I'm hardly a videophile. Features, ease of setup and use, and load times (not that important to me) were the main differences. But the OPPO 83-SE's analog audio quality was clearly better than the rest. Should have kept that one.
