Anyone watching "The Finder" on FOX?

The "Bones" spin-off from Hart Hanson. Three episodes in, and I'm really enjoying it. Sure, it's a quirky yet formulaic USA Network sort of affair, but the core cast -- Geoff Stults, Michael Clarke Duncan and Maddie Hasson -- all came out of the gate more or less rock solid. I'm less sold on the U.S. Marshall played by Mercedes Masöhn, but not enough for it to effect my enjoyment. Stults is likable and engaging as the protagonist, I'm interested in seeing where the gypsy girl's storyline goes, and Michael Clarke Duncan has the advantage of being Michael Clarke Duncan.

It's sort of TV comfort food for me. I know exactly what I'm getting, and it delivers.

I'm enjoying it, too. I'm less sold on Maddie Hanson than you are; I find her more of an intrusion than a help to the show, but I'm willing to see where that goes. Stults and Duncan make a fun team.

It is a fun, easy to watch show that has found a spot on my DVR. I hope they eventually indulge in the vs. arguments that were part of the pilot and are shown in the opening credits. Not entirely sold on Maddie Hanson either; but having said that - I find redemption to be a very strong theme in dramatic work and I wonder if we will see a reformation of her character.

Definitely enjoy the quirky sensibility of the show as embodied in the title character and I particularly like his relationship with Michael Clarke Duncan. We got to see a little bit more of the history between the two leads in yesterday's reveal of Leo's history.

- Walter.

I enjoyed the heck out of the first two episodes. I'll watch the 3rd this weekend.

I really stay away from these sorts of procedurals. And knowing it came from the people behind Bones made me even more skeptical. But I watched the first episode and liked it. And I liked the second one too. So I'm watching it, at least for a while.

I've been watching it too and I just hope I didn't give it the "Crawdaddy" curse as most shows I watch in their first season have a tendency to not make it to their second season.

I like the dynamic between Stults and Duncan. I've enjoyed Stults as an actor since I discovered him on October Road. I don't know if this will last beyond a season, but it's (thus far) some silly fun.

All the past episodes are on my DVR, so no comment as of yet. Enjoyed the Bones crossover episode so thinking this might be be fairly enjoyable.

Will comment on it sometime next week.

Still enjoyed this show. I liked it when the gypsy girl opened about about her dilemma. I also love that they brought Wilson Cruz's character back. I've been a huge fan of his since watching "My So-Called Life", and he's an absolute riot here. I'd love it if he shows up in half a dozen episodes a season (assuming there are more seasons), each time in a new job after Walter ruins his previous one.

I agree about Wilson. He was a riot the first time he was on the show, and he didn't disappoint in this latest appearance. Wasn't hard to figure out the guilty parties for this week's case, but there were other things to like about the episode.

I think the only chance the show has to come back next season is as a Friday night fill-in series at either 8 or (if Fringe gets the ax) 9. Of course, that's assuming Fox doesn't care for many of the drama pilots they've green lit.

Wouldn't hold your breath on this one. DVRd the episodes and looking forward to seeing them, but I think this show has already made the cancel list.

So you're the one to blame? laugh.gif.  I think its actually been getting better as I have enjoyed the last few episodes more than the first (haven't watched this weeks yet).

I like this show, it's light and entertaining, too bad it probably won't make it.

It would have been a better fit on USA Network or TNT, where the ratings would have been much more acceptable. I also think it would have been a better fit as summer counter-programming when nothing else is on.

As it is, if it gets renewed it'll be because Fox wants to stay in Hart Hanson's good graces.

It's been drawing the same level of ratings that the first seasons of Fringe drew when it was on Thursday night. That's why I thought Fox migfht switch it to Friday where ratings expectations are somewhat less for all the networks.

Running out of room on my DVR, and everything I've come across says this is doomed to be cancelled, I erased it all. Don't like to get involved in a show, learn to like the characters then have the rug pulled out from under you three or four months later.

Same with The Firm and Pan Am. I've already dropped them from my viewing list. Holding out for Unforgettable and A Gifted Man, they've got a few more episodes behind them so even if they do get cancelled, it will hopefully be a graceful, well written exit.

Body of Evidence still shows up on a lot of cancellation lists, but I think it's pretty decent. I will keep watching it until the I know for sure cancellation is for real. Maybe they'll just trim a few excess characters and concentrate on the show a little more.

In my opinion, that's your loss. Especially with The Finder. Unlike The Firm and Pan Am, it's really an episodic show. So even if they cancel it next week, you're not really left in the middle of some grand story arc. I think the characters are interesting and enjoyable, and I don't regret watching the show, even if they never air another episode. (Of course, I'll still watch The Firm and Pan Am even if they do pull the plug on them. I might be mad at the networks for doing so, but I don't blame the showrunners and will keep watching as long as they show them.)

Steve, I do get your point. But I was down to 45 minutes left of DVR time, need to spend some time catching back up, but I rented the Green Lantern, Drive and a few others so DVR filled up. I've been on a major CSI and Criminal Minds addiction, but especially with Criminal Minds, it's on at least four channels, so lots of repeats pop up even if you just saw them a few weeks ago.

Learned a lot about protecting shows a few months back. I was going to do a Terra Nova marathon, and thought I had kept the DVR fairly cleaned out. Turns out it was doing it for me and erased a lot of things I would have liked to have seen. Burlesque was another casualty I was looking forward to.

An episodic show like The Finder I should have handled better, did enjoy what little I saw.

The shows more serialized or with long arcs of certain plots I'm not as upset about. Especially if they're just going to be chopped off with an ax, no real wrap up to the story.

Heroes tried to clean house before cancellation, but can't say it was done particularly well. Even though I'm no longer watching, I hope these shows end well for their fans.

By the way, sounds like I'm a complete couch potato, but only temporarily as I deal with an injury.

I'm ok with Finder - I think the idea behind the character is pretty cool, and the marshall is nice looking! smile.gif Everytime I see Willa, I keep thinking of Zoe from Eureka.

I like the characters but something's just not there - not sure what it is. But I'll keep watching for now.

Not a good sign that as of this week, they'll have had 2 Bones crossovers.

It never clicked that I had seen Zoe from Eureka!

Just a guess, but the crossovers were probably a result of the filming hiatus on Bones to accommodate Emily Deschanel's maternity leave.

I've got very mixed feelings about tonight's episode. On one hand, it started to create a mythology for the show and created an interesting nemesis for Walter in Pope, the "hider". Sort of a Moriarty to his Sherlock Holmes.

On the other hand, the X Files-esque conspiracy and death threats play against the show's main strength, which is that it's a light breezy quirky procedural. There are shows where a character like Pope would have me on the edge of my seat. With this show, I think I'd rather have Walter searching for missing baseball cards.

I did like the stuff with the gypsy arranged marriage getting more complicated. Willa's allegiances are starting to shift in a big way. And Eric Roberts plays slimy bastards like no one else.

That's a good point about taking advantage of Bones' cast during hiatus. It's just that usually such a move would indicate that a spin-off is needing boistering from the parent.

I too like that the gypsy storyline is getting bumpy; it'll be interesting to see where that goes, plus it could be a benefit if Walter and Leo have to get minorly involved here and there.

I also think adding a dark undercurrent to the show would be a big plus. It's always cool to see a light-hearted hero like Mal Reynolds or Thomas Magnum when they get all steely and dark. But it shouldn't happen too often, it needs to primarily be light, breezy and quirky, I agree.

The big question is can Geoff pull that off? This is the first show I've seen him on, and I don't think last night was a good showing, but I don't know if that was the intent, either.

It was neat to see Hodgins on there; I hope if there's another cross-over, it's Booth and Walter teaming up. I think the banter alone would be worth it.

Not only actors on hiatus from Bones during the maternity leave but also they got to use the diner set several times and the Jeffersonian set from Bones that are just standing idly by. Saves big bucks not to find new locations or build new sets.

"The Finder" will air its spring finale next Thursday, and then air the remainder of its season on Fridays at 8 starting April 6th. Personally, I think Friday could be a good perch for this show. If the ratings don't dip too much on Friday, it's chances of a second season go up in a huge way.

Apparently they've been airing the episodes out of order; I didn't notice until Leo met Timo for the first time tonight -- after having conversations with him in a few previous episodes. Last week's episode, "The Last Meal", was actually the second episode produced. Despite airing tenth, tonight's episode was actually the sixth episode filmed. If you notice, Maddie Hasson's credit shot in the main titles is actually a shot from this episode of caffeine-addled and sleep-deprived Willa poring over the endless security camera footage from the plaza.

I was wondering about the order since while Walter and Isabel aren't exactly in a committed relationship the prior episode showed their chemistry which conflicted with Walter's behavior around the guest actress in tonight's episode. Definitely recognized the manic shot of Maddie in the title's credits from this episode.

- Walter.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this light-hearted (for the most part) series, and I'll be sorry to see it go at the end of its production run. The ratings tell a very gloomy story.

While I will grant that the episode order has been scrambled, during the first season of a show the order in which episodes are produced and their order in the storyline can be quite different due to a variety of factors (mostly post-production and personnel ones).

Or FOX screwing around smile.gif

We've been enjoying the show (far more than we expected), and look forward to re-watching it in something akin to a proper story order.

Stylistically, this would have been a perfect fit for the USA Network, where its current ratings would have been more than decent. The actress who plays Isabel has signed onto a different pilot already. Honestly, though, I think the show could survive losing her; the heart of the appeal to me is the rather unique family dynamic between these three broken people of Walter, Leo and Willa.
