I'm going to be upgrading my speakers. I'm looking for the best bang for the buck as I'm a cheapskate
The setup will be roughly 80-90% TV & Movies and 10-20% Music. Although that could change depending on how well the speakers sound.
I'm using the L/R and surrounds from an 11 year old Yamaha 5.1 setup, they were decent back then but are definitely showing their age. I purchased a Polk Audio RM6752 center a few months back to hold me over for a while (it did the job). Now, however I'm ready to start planning the new setup.
I already have an Onkyo TX-NR509 and a BIC F12 sub. I'm looking at the Polk Audio Monitor Series (5.25" drivers).
These can be had on Newegg for around $300-350 depending on the sale that is going on.
Polk Audio CS1 (Center)
Polk Audio Monitor 40's (L/R)
Polk Audio Monitor 30's (Surrounds)
I'm open to spending up around the $500-600 mark, IF it really will be worth the extra money spent. I'm not a huge audiophile so to me it really needs to be 2x as good of a speaker to justify the 2x price. I have looked at the Infinity Primus, Klipsch Synergy, etc. I really don't know if they are worth the extra money though.
The speakers will need to be wall mountable, my TV is over a fireplace and I just do not have a good spot to put floor standing speakers. The fronts will more than likely be mounted with Pinpoint AM-40B stands, the rears would be nice if I could use a keyhole hanger, but it's not a necessity.
So that's where I'm at. I've done enough research to question if I should spend double the money, so any insight would be great.
