HDMI Converter Help Needed With Panasonic PT-L500U Projector

I have an older Panasonic PT-L500U projector. I just bought a HDMI converter to use with my older game systems. I hooked the converter up to my Samsung LCD and it worked fine. When I hooked it up to my projector it doesn't work. I know the cable and everything else running to my projector is fine because my PS3 works without a problem. There must be some reason the projector isn't reading the signal. Any help would be appreciated.

Is my projector too old?

why not bypass the HDMI converter and go direct to the PJ?
