30 Rock season 6 thread

The first episode since May 2011 was strangely anticlimactic.

...Well, I've got my Halloween costume for this year.

Also:

Great to have this one back. "America's Kidz Got Singing," the Christmas card, Lemon's gynecologist apparently being a 10-year-old, the People Magazine crossword...too much good stuff, there.

I think the dissonance struck in seeing Kenneth happily grinning as he says "Time to die!!" really did it for me -- and how can you beat an AK-47-toting Santa popping out of a dumpster alongside Satan and Jesus?

I haven't been paying attention to casting rumors, so any idea on who Liz's mystery man is?

Thought the premiere was great (it's season 6, so maybe we're in the wrong thread?).

My only complaint is that I wish we could have seen what Santa Frank intended to do with that AK-47.
I could definitely watch hours and hours of Jane Krakowski demolishing kids. Also, I am unreasonably tickled by the fact that both D'Fwan and John McEnroe have both become recurring characters in their own right.

Jack's "probationary approval" card was the couple of wavy lines from Ghostbusters. I want to sex this show so hard.

This seems to be shaping up into the Season of Jenna.

"...Oh. We'll take a pube-count, but it doesn't seem worth it."

"Sorry to break up this sausage fest --"
"Unnecessary!"

Also, how many virgins is Mary Steenburgen exsanguinating per week to keep looking like that? Damn, she fine.

The best part was the sinister, lurking IKEA employee, feeding off of Liz's relationship woes. Actually, everything with IKEA was pretty damn inspired. Actually-actually, I loved this entire episode.

("Now admit that the U.N. is useless!!" "It is! Half the building is a laser-tag arena.")

Agreed; great episode. Sadly, some reports suggest NBC is dooming the show by committing it to the 8:00 timeslot and low ratings.

Since 30 Rock is one of only two* scripted NBC shows that most people could name, I wouldn't worry about it being cancelled. Despite the handicap of being terrible shows, American Idol and The Big Bang Theory are still massively tough competition so anything else that NBC could put on against them is going to do even worse than 30 Rock. If Community was doing poorly before, I can't even imagine how bad it would be doing if it had AI against it too.

*The other being The Office.

It's nice to see that demented minds think alike. smile.gif Mary Steenburgen is as old as my mother so I was bothered by the fact that I found her quite attractive.

I found it difficult to tell if IKEA was a product placement or not. LOL. And the other product mentioned at the beginning, whatever it was.

Im not getting the love for Steenburgen.
She looked frightening this past week.
her face is so pulled back she was bordering on

No sacrificed virgins needed, just cash and a surgeon.

Her cheeks were sunk in and looked like she had all her teeth removed to get that look.

Seriously what are you guys looking at?

Yeah...I thought Steenburgen looked awful too. I literally didn't recognize her at first. Not the beauty I'd come to love.

I don't know if it's surgery, botox, or both...but, what is going on?? Want to see the same thing on another recognizable and formerly attractive actress? Check out Joan Allen on "Luck". They just don't look like themselves any more.
I'm not saying that I'm love, I'm just saying that for being about 60, Mary Steenburgen looks better than 99.99% of women that age.
Well I see an older woman who for some reason made herself look ridiculous. She looked terrific for a 60 year old woman before and now she looks terrible.
Also the surgery enhanced look at any age has never done anything for me. It's a complete turnoff.

Not condemning your opinion just that mines much different.
Plus I can say that I've never looked at an older woman in a sexual way ever even a little bit. Maybe when I get to be around 60 I will but that's a long way off.

Congratulations to 30 Rock for making the most insane Star Wars reference I've ever seen on a TV show. If you know who Figrin D'an is, what a kloo horn is and what Clak'dor VII is, you're as big of a nerd as me and whoever at 30 Rock wrote that joke.

"Please get better, sir. I've dug too many graves."

Mysterious Dark Past Kenneth > Hayseed Kenneth.

Impressed with Jim Carrey going along with such a pointed pisstake of the high-concept, high-paying crap he's specialized in of late.

I don't think even a multi-ethnic bartender with daddy-issues could've enticed me away from Nazi-uniform Liz, though.

Today at work (at my law firm), I'm wearing a white dress shirt and a blue/yellow tie. Long Live Leap-Day William!
Did you wear a bald cap.... or do you normally wear a wig?
Heh....was sorely tempted to go the "bald-cap" route, but the wife prevailed. biggrin.gif
post #21 of 44

I literally laughed for 5 minutes when the head of standards and practices introduced himself as Gaylord Felcher.  Then I explained the joke to my wife.  Then we laughed together for two or three minutes.  Then I rewound and laughed at it again for another 5 minutes.

I'm still chuckling about it.

I have always loved this show, but I think this season has been exceptionally strong.

Kennith Toilethole. Hilarious
Watched an episode here and there, but never really followed it.

Catching the old reruns now on WGN and it's really pretty good. Wish I'd started watching sooner, but will be a regular viewer from now on.

Some of the jokes are very subtle, yet hilarious if you pay attention. What I reallyy like is that it's an ensemble show, not written around a "star" performer. It's nice to just see everybody contribute. Kenneth is hilarious, one of my favorite characters.
It's odd how "Keep the White House white" would be shockingly racist to hear but when someone with a voice box says it, it's shockingly racist and hilariously funny.
I liked seeing the dark side of Kenneth...
"It's like a swastika made out of penises."

Too much like the, "Homer-is-dumb-because-of-the-crayon-in-his-brain" episode of The Simpsons.

But Smurfette Jenna? Totally would.

Last night was the show's live episode, and what a hoot it was. Great surprise guest appearances, hilarious sketches. This is the show in its prime.

I found it more hilarious than many of this season's episodes. They should switch over to live all the time. Jon Hamm was hysterically funny, and I really enjoyed all the hoops Alec Baldwin was jumping through switching characters.

Yeah, it was alot of fun with some really hilarious guest spots/cameos. It's very impressive that this show remains as good as it is. There's shows that have great years and then start to fall off but this show just keeps going strong.

I'm guessing there was a second recording done for the west coast.

Correct. They redid the show at 11:30 EDT for the West Coast.
