An interesting article came out yesterday from Reuters about Microsoft and their much rumored Pay-TV business on XBox. In the article Reuters states that Microsoft has put its talks with media companies on hold regarding online subscription services. This would put Microsoft more directly in competition with Netflix and actual TV providers.
According to Reuters, "they built Microsoft TV, they demoed it for us, they asked for rate cards but then said 'ooh ah, that's expensive,'" said one senior media executive who had been involved in the talks.
Much of the rumored TV with XBox would have included deep integration with Kinect's audio and motion capabilities.
However, Microsoft still plans on working closely with the TV business to distribute shows over the web. At CES Microsoft and New Crop announced a partnership that will allow for Fox Broadcast, Fox News, IGN and the Wall Street Journal to offer apps on its XBox Live service.
How many of you watch TV content on your XBox? Would you if there was more content?
