samsung und6000 and usb

ive got a samsung 46" und6000 and utilize the usb input to play movies.

My question is: If i have movie files on a usb stick or hard drive with dolby digital5.1 encoded audio, can i send the audio through the optical output of the tv to a receiver and still get DD? The manual suggests that the audio will be downmixed to 2 channel stereo.

Chances are very good that the audio will be downmixed.  Most TVs downmix any digital multichannel audio from external sources.  Only audio picked up via the TVs internal tuner (which most people don't use) is preserved as digital when output.

Of course, you won't know for sure unless you try it.  There have been rumors of a handful of TVs over the years that don't downmix audio, but they are few and far between.

To be certain, make sure the receiver is set to play back audio in its native format without any additional processing like Dolby ProLogic.

it appears that only a stereo signal is being sent to the receiver.

Boy, am i disappointed as my main source to the tv is usb input..

are there any bluray players that carry usb input and can handle a variety of files (mkv, avi mp4) AND output audio without down mixing?
