366 Days of pictures

I was wondering if anyone else was doing this? I decided to give it a shot this year. The idea behind it is to take and post a picture every day of the year. Some people reuse pictures, my goal is to take a new one (or many so I have one to chose from) everyday. Only day 5 and I see how hard this is going to be. :) Anyway I created a Tumblr account to upload them.

So I got a new lens for my camera for my birthday. I haven't had the opportunity to go out and try it yet since it was raining.

Congrats on the new lens, David. I considered that lens, as well as the Sigma 150-500 OS, when I was looking for a longer telephoto. The reviews sounded quite good. I ended up getting a good deal on the Canon 100-400L instead as part of a Canon rebate bundle with the 7D body.

I will be interested to hear how you like the lens.

I agree Sam but my son who was with me did not. :) I was also looking at the Sigma 150-500mm and 50-500mm as well. My brother has the Sigma x2 converter that he is going to sell me so then I can extend it further.

I do not think you will like the results of adding a 2x TC to a zoom lens that is already f/5.6. The TC will give you a maximum aperture of f/11, no auto focus capability, and probably very poor image quality. You would be much better off cropping the photo in post processing.

A 2x TC is really only useful on a f/2.8 lens, and then you better have a very high quality prime lens and TC combo. I've seen photos with a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS MKII with the new Canon 2x TC III that are still not as sharp as the Canon 100-400L, and that is the highest quality zoom lens + TC combo you can find.

I have a 1.4x TC that I used to use with my 70-200mm f/4 L IS, making it effectively a 98-280mm f/5.6 lens. It worked well, but I rarely use it now that I have the 100-400L. Adding the 1.4x TC to the 100-400L does not give very good results, and I lose auto focus on the 7D body. I get better results cropping in post processing.

I have been taking some pictures with my new lens. So far it is pretty nice.

365 you say? Yeah, dont mind if I do!

Year the 2008th

Year the 2009th

Year the 2010th

Year the 2011th

The year thusfar

It's been a hell of a project, but it's been incredibly rewarding. And it's been a huge boon to my shooting skills. Go look at the shots in 2008 - mostly crap with a couple of good pictures here and there (mostly by sheer luck). Now look at 2012 - mostly solid pictures with occasional crap (mostly from occasional laziness). It's a tough project - but keep plugging away at it, because the payoff is HUGE.

That's cool you have some great shots. I have been posting my shots to Flickr as well: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dmiller68/sets/72157628946133991/
