No, but it is required to make at least one trip to InO during the week and it is required to learn at least one new item on the secret menu during the trip. smile.gif

MMMMmmmm

How does the carpool/transportation thing work? With 60 people in the same hotel going to the same place do we charter a bus?

Also, is it ok to go by myself? I don't really "know" anyone here but I have been really wanting to go.
We had 5-6 individual 12 person buses last time, I'm sure they will have info on that as we get closer.

I've gone solo each of the last 3 times and been paired with a random roommate, no complaints on my end yet but I'm not sure how my roomies felt about my snoring smiley_wink.gif

Scott we would love to have you!  We "recruit" a few drivers and essentially van pool to the events, everyone chips in toward the rental with their driver.  Very low-tech, but it has always worked and is a lot cheaper than chartering a bus.  For people traveling alone, you are more than welcome to get your own room, or pair up with someone else traveling alone and split the cost of the room.  We don't pair people up, usually someone starts a roommate wanted thread.

I could get a timeshare. The closest one would be in Anaheim, a few miles from Disneyland. Maybe a hour's drive to Hollywood? More like being at home with a living room and full kitchen. One bedrooms sleep four, two bedrooms six.

The downside to that is you would be seen as a local from a scheduling perspective.  We (HTF) don't get any monetary benefit from the hotel.  I'm paying the same cost per night that anyone else is.  What we do get is a lower rate for everyone, a complementary conference room for for evening sessions and to hang out and watch movies with other HTFers and free parking for people willing to drive a carpool.  Its a lot easier on us to have everyone in one place to start with in the AM, so we can track people down if needed.  Staying at another location means you would have to fight your way through rush hour traffic every morning, pay to park at the hotel (even locals have to carpool with us as studio parking is very limited), and may not be able to attend all events as we give priority to those staying at the hotel.  Just food for thought.

Sorry, this is my first time so I didn't know what problems would occur from not staying at the hotel.

I drove one of the carpool vans at the last Hollywood meet, and I'd be willing to do it again. Anyone thinking of volunteering to be a driver should be sure to bring a GPS or rent a van which comes with a GPS, as getting around L.A. can be very challenging without one.

I couldn't hear you over my snoring.

I know everyone wants to go to In N Out but I would also recommend Tommy's. It is a southland original that you cannot find anywhere else. Even though I'm a veggie these days I might fall of the wagon on the trip.

I was also a driver last time and would be willing to do so again as well.

And I concur with Rich a GPS is a critical piece of equipment - saved my bacon a couple of times last meet.

When we left one of the studios the 405 was a parking lot. I kept driving east until the GPS started to give me an alternate route back to the hotel.

Are the dates final? Is it time to book flights/hotel etc?

Hi Scott!

Yes, the dates are final.  Contract with hotel signed.

Go ahead and book your flight.

Ron,

I know this question may not have an answer, BUT.....

Does anyone know when is the best time to book a flight in order to get the cheapest rates??
6 months before, 4 months, 1 month .... ?

Some say it doesn't make a difference, but I've heard otherwise, most referring to ~ 2 months before departure?

Any info on this? I know that fluctuating gas prices pay a major role on this, but I was just wondering....

Right now, airline prices are through the roof and my fear

is that with predicted gasoline costs on the rise and problems

with Iran, I don't think airline prices are going to get much

cheaper short-term.  In fact, just this week they went up by $10.

There are two great resources to track flights....

http://www.kayak.com/

Do an initial search for your flight.  Then, select the link

to have Kayak keep a watch on that flight (track it) by sending

you a daily or weekly email of price changes.

There is also a really good newsletter that gives you

bargain fares from your city.

http://www.airfarewatchdog.com/

Just join their Newsletter.

I suspect a few months before the flight gets you your

best price.  Always book Tue-Thur as allegedly, those are

the best fare days.

I just checked Travelocity for Hartford, CT to LA:

$258 March
$307 April
$321 May
$321 June
$552 July
$459 August
$419 September
$419 October

I'm going to wait a while before I book.
