Voting January 1st-29th

These are the votes that count the most!  They are based on nominations from members of HTF --- not a panel of judges or a team of reviewers.

During the last week of December members nominated their best and worst choices of studios and Blu-ray titles.  We have taken the top 5 choices* in each category and presented them to our membership to vote a winner.

Voting will take place January 1st-29th.  Members can vote ONCE in each category.  The winners will be announced on the morning of Monday January 30th.

*In cases where there were not enough nominations or too many closely nominated titles, we went above or below 5 choices.

What Title would you like to see released in 2012?

What personal favorite title would you like the studios to consider releasing for 2012?

Note: We asked members not to nominate Indiana Jones set and Jaws which is coming in 2012.

If you were one of the first 3 votes early January 2nd, please resubmit your vote.

We had to delete and repost this particular survey.

We incorrectly listed a title with the wrong studio.  We also had to remove LAWRENCE

OF ARABIA.  It did make the top 5 nominated, but the title is coming in 2012.

What the hell, I voted for Raintree County since it never even got a DVD release.

Please feel free to discuss your reasons for your vote.

This will better help the studios understand how consumers feel

about the product they are voting for.

We may include some of them when we post the final list of winners

in each category

Easily "The Abyss".  The DVD is non-anamorphic and nearly 13 years old - time for an update, man!

I'm hoping that Fox will try to force Cameron to OK new transfers for The Abyss and True Lies so they can tie them into the Titanic theatrical re-release and Blu-ray.

None of the five listed interest me. Would really like to see more Columbia Pictures titles (A Man For All Seasons, Oliver, Funny Girl) and some of the Warners Bros's films (Mister Roberts, Gypsy, Aunite Mame, The Great Race, Yankee Doodle Dandy)

I would gladly buy four of the five titles (Raintree County is not my cup of tea), but my vote was for Rear Window, because it's my favourite Hitchcock, and also one of my top 5 movies all-time.

SO thrilled that "Raintree County" was included!! biggrin.gif

That title gets my vote!

I voted True Lies because it is a sure thing that old classics will eventually be released on BluRay -- studios love that sht -- so there's no need to vote for them. But modern classics like True Lies, those need a push to get them onto BluRay.

While the Hitchcock's are a sure bet, RAINTREE, which didn't even get a standard def release, is not.... WB, PLEASE let this be the year for RAINTREE! biggrin.gif

Mine too.
I voted Raintree County.

I really like that movie but even if I did not like it I am sure that two of the biggest Hitchcock classics and two James Cameron movies would be released in any case in the next two or three years so they don't need our votes. Raintree County is far less certain to make it to Blu-Ray especially after the back and forth at Warner with regard to this title.

Raintree County would be a magnificent addition to the Blu-Ray collection. The Star of stars Dame Elizabeth would look stunning in this format. Our Queen of the Night deserves to be seen in her stunning glory. cool.gif In fact all of Dame ELIZABETH'S top movies should be in Blu-Ray. A collection of the best: THE SANDPIPER, CLEOPATRA & even BOOM with it's magnificent Sardinia location and the stunning face of Dame Elizabeth. We deserve nothing less for the most stunning face and talent of the 20th Century.

Raintree County would be my choice. smile.gif

How many people voting for Raintree County have ever bought it on a previous home video release? This would include VHS, LD, and some foreign DVD's but no US release (to my knowledge).

If you saw it, what did you think of it?
Hi Robert! I bought it on VHS. It's certainly a flawed film, but a very intriguing story. The Roadshow version deserves to be restored and released on Blu.

We have been waiting for Raintree County for years! It should be at the top of WB's list. All Elizabeth Taylor's legions await, along with Monty Clift's!!

VOTE FOR RAINTREE COUNTY! biggrin.gif

RAINTREE COUNTY
I've never seen Raintree County in widescreen, and it should look spectacular in HD, so that gets my vote.

As much as I love Vertigo, it is obvious it will be released sooner rather than later, most likely this year or next, so that one is a formality. But it seems Warner Home Video has lost the desire to release Raintree County on DVD. I just hope it doesn't end up on Warner Archive because it deserves better given it is a large format film.

Johnny Green's score for Raintree County is magnificent, but the movie is much less so. It does have some good performances, but it's lumbering and trying so hard to be an epic with less than epic components. Still, it certainly deserves a Blu-ray release and with the proper attention, should look gorgeous.

However, I voted for Vertigo.

1. Raintree County - Simply because it's the only NEW to disc title. I'm tired of re-releases!!
2. Rear Window - My favorite Hitchcock, but I'm hesitant because I have the complete Universal Hitch boxset. I hate keeping multiple copies of discs, so I would prefer a complete set on Blu.
3. Vertigo - Another favorite Hitch....with the same concerns of Rear Window
4. The Abyss - This definitely deserves an upgrade, but I sold my copy years ago and have had no desire to rewatch, so I doubt I would purchase this.
5. True Lies - Not interested at all.

Voted for Vertigo, Raintree County, in my opinion, is just an overblown, overhyped, easily forgotten movie. I know that is contrary to popular opinion here, but Giant is 10 times the movie that Raintree County is.
Voted for Raintree County. It was the first movie filmed in the MGM Camera 65 film format (Ben-Hur was the second) which would produce a 70mm anamorphic print with a 2.76:1 aspect ratio. It was not released in 70mm so, it would be cool to see the full 2.76:1 ratio that it could have been.

I agree. I saw "Raintree County" when it was first released and was very disappointed and , yes, bored. "Giant" is non-anamorphic and needs a Blu-ray release. But for those who haven't seen it or have a more favorable memory of it than I do, give them "Raintree County." "Giant" still gets my vote for priority.
Oh, and I voted for "Rear Window" from the list here.
i Voted for Raintree County it needa a Dvd release and a Blu Ray Release
post #29 of 96

Cameron's films entertain, but mostly don't grab me in any critical lifelong-love-of-film kind of way (if that makes any sense) -- the exception being Aliens.  So, I don't care all that much about the two on this list.  I don't know Raintree County but that does sound like something that should be preserved and released.  But...I voted Vertigo.  I dearly love Rear Window, too, so it's tough to place one over the other, but I think it's a hair more important for Vertigo to reach Blu-ray audiences sooner rather than later.

Why oh why didn't I nominate 20000 Leagues Under the Sea? Or was it and didn't get enough recs?

I went for Vertigo over Rear Window only because my Vertigo DVD is one from the batch that's gone bad and is now unplayable.
