Voting January 1st-29th

These are the votes that count the most!  They are based on nominations from members of HTF --- not a panel of judges or a team of reviewers.

During the last week of December members nominated their best and worst choices of studios and Blu-ray titles.  We have taken the top 5 choices* in each category and presented them to our membership to vote a winner.

Voting will take place January 1st-29th.  Members can vote ONCE in each category.  The winners will be announced on the morning of Monday January 30th.

*In cases where there were not enough nominations or too many closely nominated titles, we went above or below 5 choices.

BEST BLU-RAY RELEASE 2011

What title released in 2011 would you consider to be the very best offering for the Blu-ray format?

Please feel free to discuss your reasons for your vote.

This will better help the studios understand how consumers feel

about the product they are voting for.

We may include some of them when we post the final list of winners

in each category

Who the heck nominated Star Wars? More to the point WHO THE HECK VOTED FOR STAR WARS?!?

Star Wars is an excellent set if you're not a fan, picky, or had the DVDs.

I picked Citizen Kane. It looks and sounds almost flawless. The only issues are the few instances of re-created "stills" which isn't a big deal.

Ben-Hur almost got my vote, but the decision to not remaster the silent version is disappointing. Paramount didn't have any qualms about the '23 Ten Commandments being remastered in the '56 set.

TAXI DRIVER was the best Blu-ray released this year. An inexpensive release filled with insightful special features and a great transfer.

Loved  Kane but best comprehensive package for the price has to go to Taxi Driver, then Citizen Kane then Ben Hur , how the hell did The Ten Commandments not make this list, i place it over the Ben Hur release or at least neck and neck

Ben Hur, Citizen Kane and Taxi Driver are all great releases! All in all I would rate them close but in this sequence.

Hard to argue with Taxi Driver. Excellent blu-ray by Grover Crisp and co. at Sony (Plus, the restoration print was great, too). Also, the pricing was quite affordable!

Star Wars is the only one I bought this year... it gets (and got) my vote.

Ben Hur! What a movie. One must remember there was no cgi and all the scenes are real! Crowds, the chariot race all real, Mr Heston drove chariot in the film hiself in most scenes also.
special fx then was much different from today. when I watch it I always am impressed still.

Agree about Ben-Hur as my favourite release of the year. I know what Lee means, though Ben-Hur has very many special effects shots - models for the sea battle as well as numerous model, matte and glass shots to make the sets and the crowds look bigger than they actually were.

I would have voted "The Ten Commanments" Collectors box set.

Have to echo what others have said about Ben-Hur. An absolutely incredible film. It most assuredly got my vote.
