I have a new panasonic viera plama tv 65 inch, and a new phillips 1000w home theater system with a blu-ray dvd player, not 3d. Shouldn't i be able to coonect the blu-ray to the arc hdmi outlet and have the audio? When i set all the audio preferences from tv to home theater, i get no audio...I must be missing something..do i need to get a digital audio cable to go from my tv to the blu-ray??? maybe thats it...thanks for the help folks!!

You need to be a bit more specific.  What source are you trying to get audio from?  Do you have cable or satellite connected to the TV directly via HDMI?  If so, are you trying to get audio from cable/satellite to play through the Phillips system?

Finally, what is the model number of the Phillips system?  We need to have answers to all of these questions to provide definitive answers.

i do have direct tv. Right now it is configured with the satelite cable going into the directtv hd receiver. There is a hdmi cable that goes from the hd receiver to the tv, using a non-arc hdmi output on the tv. The only other connection i have is the hdmi cable that goes from the hdmi (arc) on the tv to the blu-ray. I want to be able to route the audio from my tv to the speakers attached to the blu-ray.Thanks Jason!

That is one of the best TVs you can buy today why would you match it up with such a bad sound system. You do not have ARC capabilities with the Phillips. You can connect a digital caoxial cable to the receiver from the Direct TV box for surround sound.

would that be better than connecting the tv itself to the hts with an audio cable?
thanks,

If connecting the TV to the receiver would be a better connection I would have said that! The TV is NOT a good place to do any audio switching the RECEIVER IS FOR AUDIO SWITCHING. So connect the digital cable out of the cable box to the Phillips receiver and select that input for surround sound from the TV.
